Brad Pitt to play Steve McQueen in new biopic?

It's been almost two years since the rumors first arose and were subsequently put to rest, but they're back again. Following earlier reports that Brad Pitt was set to reprise the legendary Steve McQueen's role in the timeless classic film Bullitt, new reports have now emerged saying that Pitt has been contracted to play the beloved actor/racer in an upcoming biographical film of McQueen's life.
The as-yet-untitled McQueen biopic is reportedly being produced by Michael Cerenzie and Christine Peters (who are currently collaborating on the upcoming film Art of the Devil), and the film is reportedly set to begin production next year. Together with upcoming biopics on Phil Hill and Ayrton Senna, it looks like racing fans have a lot to look forward to on the Big Screen.

Ugh, if you're going to get anyone to play Steve McQueen we all know it should be Daniel Craig.
Brad Pitt is way to dweeby to be half as cool as McQueen.

yeah I'm sure the british accent will fit the part just right.
What's wrong with Brad Pitt. I think he's a pretty good actor.

Are you serious?
You know people can imitate an American accent to?
You know House (Hugh Laurie) is English and has an English accent and pulls it off.

An American accent?

I agree with you in the looks and coolness department, but last time I heard him try Craig had a terrible American accent. It's been a while though, so maybe he improved.

From reading about and reviews: Eric Bana would be an easy 2nd. Or for that matter, move over Craig.

***I mean give to a guy that like cars and likely races.***
Neither Craig nor (LOL) Pitt will do.
Pitt would not even get close to a race tire for it could mess up his hair. Or make him smell that Angelina would leave town with the kids for a week.

Brad Pitt? No way! Use Damian Lewis, at least he looks a lot like Steve McQueen!

Damn, he really does.

dang - I'm one of the 23 people pissed that "Life" just was announced to be cancelled, and had never thought about Damian Lewis looking like McQueen, but I can def. see him pulling it off.
And Lewis, like Hugh Laurie and Craig, is British as well, and you would have never known watching the show. Oh, and Anna Torv, from Fringe - Australian. Same scenario. Properly trained actors can pull off most any accent they want.

Apparently, other folks have also noticed the resemblance.
Check out these side-by-side photos of Steve McQueen and Damien Lewis. Pretty close!

It would never work with Brad Pitt in a movie about Le Mans. Just think what would or wouldn't happen if:
Director- "Brad, pit"
Brad - "You can just call me Brad"
Director- "No Brad, pit"
Bad - "JUST CALL ME BRAD DAMMIT"
Director-"We should have given Seth Rogen the part"

Oh come now --- IMHO:
I call full foul on Brad Pitt --- Daniel Craig is THE Spot-On choice to play McQueen ---- he's the spitting image of the man.
Definitely the same type of bad-ass "makes his own rules" kind of persona, too.
Daniel Craig:

McQueen:

And, finally ---- same set of steelie blues. Do no be messin.'

In terms of looks, Craig is the better choice. I have no idea how that will go down with the rest of the world if a Brit plays an American, nor do I know of his American accent. Is it any good or is it kind of "overacted" like Hugo Weaving's accent as Agent Smith? Don't get me wrong, that accent was awesome, but you see where I'm getting at? I also think our cousins across the pond would be kinda worried, since they view McQueen as an icon as much as we do.
Anywho, either would be a good choice.
Someone said Damian Lewis? Great actor, not used enough....but if you want a big budget bio-pic, you need a big name. Sorry.
