How do you get out of those pesky parking tickets? Why, blame your identical twin, of course!

Anyone that has a sibling knows that as kids they're constantly blaming the other for just about everything that goes wrong. In Switzerland, twin brothers have the blame game down to a science, as they've successfully talked their way out of 29 parking tickets by refusing to pay the fine because "the other one did it." Since the twins are identical and they are co-owners of one car, Swiss officials have no concrete way to identify the offender. Without being able to identify anyone, officials feel there is no way they can hand out a ticket.
The fact that law enforcement cannot nail this dynamic duo for a simple parking infraction is maddening. And short of staking out the car, grabbing the suspect and finger printing them, these two parking bad boys will never have to pay a fine. Hat tip to Brady.

I wonder if that would work for speeding tickets too...?

I doubt it. They would have to show ID to an officer. The parking tickets are given when they don't have to be present and thus can't check ID.

It would! Here in Switzerland, with the billions of cameras around, unless they can ID you, you're scot free ;-)
Wish I had a twin brother! lol

Maddening? How about AWESOME.
Anything that outwits metermaids is thumbs up in my view. Screw them!

yeah! people who habitually break the law are awesome!

Clearly you have never lived downtown. Most cities have retarded "alternate side parking" regulations purely to generate revenue. Do they sweep streets on the opposite side, or trim branches? Nope. They just make people switch sides every night so if you screw up they can demand $20-40. Super freakin' cool dude. Couldn't possibly be that some laws are RETARDED and do nothing but steal money from normal citizens.

When I lived in an area that had alternate parking rules they did street sweep. It was always a blast to sit outside and watch them tow other vehicles because unlike a lot of places our town put up signs 24 hours in advance on the side of the street that was affected.
Rob 1:43PM (5/01/2009)
@ Info: No signs. That would be pointless. This is EVERY NIGHT. Even in the summer. They aren't plowing or anything. It makes some sense in the winter (only after snow falls), but other than that it is PURELY a way to generate revenue. It does nothing to help or improve the quality of life of the normal citizen, it only makes things obnoxious and lines the pockets of politicians.

you'd think these geniuses would figure out how to legally park before their luck runs out

Please come to Milwaukee. Find me a legal parking spot where I can leave my car all day, since it is obviously super easy.
PS: I'm a student, so pay areas don't count. Good luck!
DelayedZ 2:58PM (5/01/2009)
Why don't the cops just tow the car, the local police in this case aren't to bright.

I find the phrase "aren't to bright" ironic. The correct word here is "too."

I'm an identical twin, and that will not work in Canada. The car gets the ticket, and the registered owner(s) have to pay it. Simple as that.
@Herkmiker - If you get pulled over, it's the same as over here. DL and Registration.

Precisely my thoughts, if the car was parked illegally, than how the heck does who was driving make a difference, it was parked!
the ticket is issued to the vehicle and the registered owner(s) have to pay.

Guess the swiss authorities haven't gotten yet to such a high degree of geniosity
jeesusfreek 12:39PM (5/01/2009)
I'm thankful for our freedoms in the western world where those who do not commit crimes do not have to pay the consequences!!! And where the authorities are not allowed to commit a crime in order to prove a citizen committed a crime!!!
While you can debate the morality of avoiding parking tickets all you want, the simple fact remains that this is the severest form of shortsightedness. I thank the dear lord every day that people like you two aren't running our government.
You clearly have a very limited understanding of the law - Grow up and take your legal moralism elsewhere.

LOL
Your alias says it all, *freak (and you obviously don't know what your talking about)...
Polly Prissy Pants 4:33PM (5/01/2009)
If a friend borrows your car and parks illegally why should you have to pay? Yea, I understand that's how it is, but ideally they should try to penalize the one who actually committed the offense, which is what this story is about. They merely ticket the registered owner out of convenience regardless of the whole "innocent until proven guilty" nonsense.
jeesusfreek 11:12AM (5/02/2009)
@carlosmc
got a problem with my beliefs? i think your comment just about says it all, you ignorant biased POS.
by the way, "geniosity" isn't a word...so as far as validating your poor arguments, you are doing a great job at failing
Guy 9:25AM (5/01/2009)
Identical twins, wouldn't they have the same fingerprints too?
