Boss 302 Mustang 40th anniversary reunion – Click above for high-res image gallery

Thousands of Ford owners gathered in Southern California this weekend for the 24th annual Fabulous Fords Forever show on the grounds of the Knotts Berry farm theme park. This year, the event celebrated 50 years of the Ford Galaxie and the 70th anniversary of Mercury, but our interest was piqued with a collection of Boss 302 Mustangs, 45 in all.

The Boss 302 is the quintessential classic Mustang – aggressive styling, a high-revving 290 horsepower V8, 4-speed manual transmission, rally wheels, and a shaker hood scoop. The owners were celebrating the car's 40th year in existence, some of whom came from as far away as Canada to meet with their fellow Boss 302 enthusiasts.

The pavement was decorated with the bright, signature colors made popular by the Boss Mustangs - Grabber Orange, Grabber Blue, Bright Yellow, Calypso Coral, Wimbledon White, all of which can be seen in our high-res gallery below.

The Boss 302 and the Shelby GT350 are two of my favorite Mustangs. Sure, they might not have had the power of the big block stangs, but they were fun, well rounded cars. I wish I would have bought a few of each when I had the chance.

Is that a rusty unkept classic mustang hidden behind the red one? Wow, they'll bring anything to a show!

Last time I checked there's never been a color option called "30 years of oxidation and rust" so I'm pretty sure it's all cruddy to some degree! Maybe an in-progress restoration?

      Still sweet though..

@Kattleox: i fully agree. the boss 302 (i prefer '70) is on my top 10 list of all time, and i am a big lambo fan, starting from the beginning.

*****45th year in existance, not 40th.

I wanted to be a smartass, but I'll forgive you. The Boss was released in 1969...hence...40th Anniv. But yes this week is the 45th Anniv of the Mustang in general...

You need 'piqued', not 'peaked' in there...

At first, I lol'ed at the 290hp from a V8...but then I thought, after 40 years, it hasn't gotten much more horsepower...

As much as I love the Mustang, it is seriously underpowered, especially with the new Challenger and Camaro.

Actually given weight and size the current V8 Mustang can run and beat the Challenger R/T and is behind the Camaro SS. The 5.0L V8 on the 2011 will take care of the Camaro.

IMO,The 1970 Mustang in any trim package, even Grande is by and far the best of the Mustangs. If you look at the late 70s' to early 80s' BMW, you can see some of this Mustang and the newer Aston Martins have a lot of this car in their styling.
