2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor – Click above for high-res image gallery

Mike Levine of PickupTrucks.com is currently embedded in an F-150 SVT Raptor R with the Ford Racing Team at the "Terrible 250" in Primm, Nevada. Being that close to the action, Levine has managed to wrest some hard info about the upcoming production SVT Raptor from Ford. The off road-ready half-ton will start at just $38,995, which may sound like a lot until you consider this desert flier will be only about $3,000 more than a well-equipped F-150 FX4. The SVT Raptor will launch with Ford's 5.4-liter V8, but soon after will be joined by the company's new 6.2-liter V8, as well. The truck certainly isn't for everyone with its huge tires, high suspension and compensating-for-something "FORD" grille, but those who do go for that kind of thing will at least not get gouged at the checkout counter.

I'm shocked that I like it. I mean, it's a Ford. Did they hire some talented new designers or something?! I'm liking a lot of their designs these days. Then again, I am still of the opinion they should kill all of their American market cars except for the F150 and Mustang and bring all of their European market cars home.

The interior is pretty chintzy for a truck that is about $40,000. It's sad really. The only nice interior I've ever seen Ford build was in the Ford GT.
I guess you never looked inside of a Lotus Elise then
        • 5 Years Ago
Dave, who was that comment to? I have a Lotus Elise and feel that Lotus did dial their interior back to a point where they could do something within their budget that doesn't feel chintzy. Everywhere I look I see aluminum (the chassis, shifter, etc.), nice leather seating, high quality carpets, and good quality plastic for the dash itself.

It's a basic interior but it isn't chintzy.

        > The interior is pretty chintzy for a truck that is about $40,000.

They spent the money rather on the parts that do matter when offroading.

I like the grill but instead of the FORD lettering spread out, a simple Ford logo will do.

FOR THE LAST TIME: THE WORD IS "GRILLE".
@RamblinReck - Is there an Xzibit moment there?

"Yo dawg, I herd you like to grill, so I put a grill in your grille..."

Not as good as "I put a car in your car, so you can drive while you drive", I am afraid. Must be the antihistamines.
Grill? Grille? Why not combine the two? Have the grille function as a fold down grill, and you've got more practicality than you'd know what to do with.
Saw this thing at the NY auto show a few days ago.
I'm not into offroading, but it was pretty sweet.

This truck is no different than a gt500 is to a street car guy.
It's a factory performance machine, meant to run stuff over rather than burn up the drag strip.
Less than 40 grand for something kick ass for an auto enthusiast is always a steal, regardless whether it's offroad or on road.
First Ford truck I've seen that is worth 40 grand...
Since when is SVT an off-road division?

A new Lightning would have had a far better following.

For offroad use I would rather have a Power Wagon. At least it's a 3/4 ton that can haul and DO stuff off road other than just go fast. My god, the Dakota can haul more than the Raptor.....
      That's really alot money!
It's also a lot of ugly.
Brian....if you would read the article, it has the 6.2L BOSS. So actually, not a bad price for a Fox Racing equipped F150 with a brand new 6.2L.
How is that a lot of money? Quit being so cheap. That truck is worth every penny. Plus, they're selling it in lower volumes so it makes perfect sense to price a high performance vehicle like this. I'm surprised it's not a bit more actually.
Err, no. It has the 5.4. The articles says the 6.2 liter will come later, but I doubt it.
Go look at the prices of the all the major trucks (specifically diesel, dually, or longer ones). These higher-end trucks can cost about the same, or even more.

This is a hell of a truck, for a reasonable amount of coin (not that I could afford it at the moment).

Consider how much it would cost to buy a base F-150, and modify it as much as the raptor. I suspect the cost would be drastically higher

I am curious as to the actual costs when you figure everything into it.

        Just my 2-cents

        To Andrew,

It's easy to spend someone elses money. Did you order 1 or 2 of them?
Andrew, High performance vehicle? It has that anemic 5.4 in it . There are V6 engines that put out more horse power than that thing.
      Only come in orange?
The black version looks pretty nice, the orange is a bit too loud for my taste.
I got to see a blue one at the Denver Auto-Show, and fell in love with that color and the truck.
@ taglane LOL you're an ass.

        well done.

      the grille is too ugly
It's going to be interesting to see what tuner shops do with the engines. For that kinda price they should sell quite well but these things are quite fast so people are going to have to watch out for Raptor attacks on the roads lol

And I thought Ford was the most intelligent of the big 3. Shall we sign them up for some bailout money or just got right for an Obama takeover, errr, bankruptcy?

$38,995? Are they insane?! The days of spending massive amounts of money on useless things is OVER.

Socialism is upon us and that kind of luxury is out.

Bye bye America as we knew it.

Its called the : CLOWARD PIVEN STRATEGY.

      Goggle it.

p.s. - I actually wanted to like this thing, I just hoped from the initial talk it would be priced more around $24,995, not 40k. Ford is nuts.
Dear Pythia, could you tell us the exact sales numbers of this thing? :)
25k? Are you high? Frikken Miata's sticker for 25k. You must be out of your mind.
$39K for a terribly ugly, rolling JC Whitney catalog...that can only tow a pitiful 6K pounds?

      Two words:

      Pipe Dream.
God you're pathetic. Why do you get off on being a tool?
        Tagg

I get off on the truth. What is amazing is how far you blind Ford cheerleaders will go in an attempt to make Ford and their dull, boring automotive appliances seem better than they really are.
        Ha ha ha..

        This is too easy.

Matt, Matt. Matt. My favorite GM loyalist.

Stop hurting yourself, bro. You're gonna become the next Sea Urine/Urchin.
Thanks Matt for sullying my good name.
This truck wipes its ass with JC Whitney.
Courtesy of the Matt that has taste.

        Tagline:

I didn't have a lemon...I had what is, in many areas, Ford's absolute best platform. BY FAR the most durable and reliable cars made today. I had a Crown Vic. Cars that last 500K PLUS miles on only routine maintenance.

But, just like all Fords, the bean counters must make cuts. And, unlike GM, where the cuts are in the interiors, Ford makes those cuts in the engines and transmissions. Thus the continuing spark plug failures of the modular motors, the intake failures on the 4.6, etc.

The powertrain is not a place to cut costs.

        Tagline:

It is not about being loyal...it is about liking the best product.

I have had two Fords...both have left me stranded on the side of the road. My two GM products have been trouble free...and one was a 180K mile Grand Prix.
Yes, the G6, Aveo, Cobalt, Colorado, Impala, Silverado, and Malibu just scream EXCITEMENT! Nothing outside of the Corvette is that exciting.

Oh, I forgot the 3 different badges that GM puts on each model to fill their lineup.

The G8 maybe good but no one buys them with out over $4000 in cash on the hood and even then sales are weak. The Malibu factory in Michigan has been shut down since November because they close to a 200 day supply of them.

By the way, 60 days is ideal.

Meanwhile the new Fusion is met with great reveiws and is offered in an affordabe hybrid model. The Volt will cost of $40,000 and cost over a billion dollars to develop. GM will NEVER recoup the cost and when they go bankrupt companies will not be lining up to do business with them again.

You think GM makes the best product? Please. If that were true they wouldn't have my tax dollars and still be teatering on bankruptcy.

You speaking about truth is laughable.
please, relegate those ugly bed graphics to one off dealer demos....I do NOT want to have to get that on a raptor.

to sell this truck, they need some sort of obstacle course like Land Rover dealers have.
        The graphics are OPTIONAL.

Excellent Truck. I have a lot of uses for something like that.

Well just to let people know, yes it comes in other colors, Orange, Black, White and i believe a light blue. the graphics are an option just like any graphics that come on mustangs etc. And btw...theres a black one in one of the pictures. Also its probably a good idea to just wait for the 6.2L to come out.
