Mike Levine of PickupTrucks.com is currently embedded in an F-150 SVT Raptor R with the Ford Racing Team at the "Terrible 250" in Primm, Nevada. Being that close to the action, Levine has managed to wrest some hard info about the upcoming production SVT Raptor from Ford. The off road-ready half-ton will start at just $38,995, which may sound like a lot until you consider this desert flier will be only about $3,000 more than a well-equipped F-150 FX4. The SVT Raptor will launch with Ford's 5.4-liter V8, but soon after will be joined by the company's new 6.2-liter V8, as well. The truck certainly isn't for everyone with its huge tires, high suspension and compensating-for-something "FORD" grille, but those who do go for that kind of thing will at least not get gouged at the checkout counter.

How is that a lot of money? Quit being so cheap. That truck is worth every penny. Plus, they're selling it in lower volumes so it makes perfect sense to price a high performance vehicle like this. I'm surprised it's not a bit more actually.

It's also a lot of ugly.

To Andrew,
It's easy to spend someone elses money. Did you order 1 or 2 of them?

Andrew, High performance vehicle? It has that anemic 5.4 in it . There are V6 engines that put out more horse power than that thing.
Farmboy 9:28PM (4/18/2009)
Brian....if you would read the article, it has the 6.2L BOSS. So actually, not a bad price for a Fox Racing equipped F150 with a brand new 6.2L.

Go look at the prices of the all the major trucks (specifically diesel, dually, or longer ones). These higher-end trucks can cost about the same, or even more.
This is a hell of a truck, for a reasonable amount of coin (not that I could afford it at the moment).
Consider how much it would cost to buy a base F-150, and modify it as much as the raptor. I suspect the cost would be drastically higher
I am curious as to the actual costs when you figure everything into it.
Just my 2-cents

This truck is insane! A to Z. It's the coolest thing to the road that's larger than a sedan in a long time! Figuring what's in it, it's a pretty good bargain! Take an FX4, then mod it and you'll spend WAY more than this! Take ANY truck and make it look this cool and function as well and it will also cost WAY more than this! Not to mention all the after-market stuff wouldn't look OEM and be rough around the fitting.
Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has my vote! And what a SICK name too! :)
ambientFLIER 10:16AM (4/19/2009)
Err, no. It has the 5.4. The articles says the 6.2 liter will come later, but I doubt it.
Tang 4:15PM (4/18/2009)
Well, I mean, it's the same price for a Taurus SHO... so the same price for two different purposes... I say not bad.

The black version looks pretty nice, the orange is a bit too loud for my taste.
Yaroukh 5:09PM (4/18/2009)
molten orange
tuxedo black
blue flame
oxford white
CarbonBlack 9:16PM (4/18/2009)
I got to see a blue one at the Denver Auto-Show, and fell in love with that color and the truck.

@ taglane LOL you're an ass.
well done.

I think the graphics on the bed are a bit distasteful, but other than that I think it's a reasonably badass looking truck. Rather have it in black/pewter than orange, though.

please, relegate those ugly bed graphics to one off dealer demos....I do NOT want to have to get that on a raptor.
to sell this truck, they need some sort of obstacle course like Land Rover dealers have.

Well just to let people know, yes it comes in other colors, Orange, Black, White and i believe a light blue. the graphics are an option just like any graphics that come on mustangs etc. And btw...theres a black one in one of the pictures. Also its probably a good idea to just wait for the 6.2L to come out.
