Redefining the term "enough is enough", the owner of this car is said to have had his SLR gold-chromed. The strangest part is that, according to reports, this is actually the same Mercedes SLR McLaren that was previously spied in Dubai with a silver-chrome treatment. We're not sure about the accuracy of this model considering it has a different rear spoiler, different wheels (which have also been gold-chromed) and darker taillight frame like those on later versions of the Anglo-Saxon supercar, not to mention a different license plate... although the car also reportedly belongs to the owner of a UAE license plate registry, so anything's possible.

The sad reality is that someone, whether it's the same guy or not, looked at a chromed McMerc and thought, Yeah, but what if it were plated in gold? Sure makes the gold-plated Veyron and Phantom DHC sent to the same region seem like the epitome of good taste.

The dumb ass that did this needs to be carrying a gun and fighting his own fricking war in that god forsaken hellhole. To think the US Army saved these jackasses from Sadam Hussein, what a waste of time, lives and money.

That brings up a good questions.

Autoblog, why all the coverage of these tacky cars from rich oil executives?

Before anyone has a chance to say, wait a minute that was Kiwait, Dubai would have been next. In a world of starving kids when some @sshole decides he want a gold plated car, he needs to have to protect his so-called gold plated @ss. These jerk-offs in Dubai are excess to the extreme, they should experience what it's like to going to bed hungry. Yes I'm on a rant, and more of us should rant when such garbage is thrown in our faces by a bunch of worthless idiots that have known nothing in their lives but being waited on hand and foot.

      @ Al Terego

Do you honestly think that the auto industry hasn't thought about what will happen after there will be no more oil. And on the contrary, there are alternatives to oil, they're just not being given that much attention because there is still enough oil for the next 40-50 years or so. Once that deadline comes u'll c how those alternatives are going to blossom and how much more funding and attention they will recieve.

I'm not talking about the automotive industry. I specifically said industry as in heavy/farming equipment, shipping freighters, cargo planes, tools of war(peace keeping equipment if you prefer),etc. All the things that makes us comfortable enough so that we don't even have to get out of our cars to withdraw money or buy a burger.

I know this is a car but that shouldn't limit anyone's thoughts to cars and only cars.

GAH. The goggles! They do nothing!

Should've covered it in a camo vinyl wrap, maybe it would've looked half decent.

that's not the same car, yes they're both from the Emirates, but one is from Dubai and the other is from Abu Dhabi.

I'll be posting this Matt Gold SLR I saw in Qatar two days ago. Freaking awesome.

I think I've seen way tackier pictures from SEMA of cars with body kits. Or on Pimp My Ride. You can probably buy seven gold-chromed Mercs for the price of a Veyron. So see... this is showing fiscal restraint! ;)

Besides, if Elvis had lived he would have bought one of these too.
