Jeep recalling more than 47,000 Liberty, Commander, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler models

Chrysler is recalling over 47,000 models, including the 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Commander, and Wrangler four-door that may have reversed wiring on the driver's airbag controller, a defect that may inhibit the airbag's deployment. Additionally, the 2002 and 2003 Jeep Libertys sold in New England and much of the Midwest are susceptible to a loss of lubrication in their front ball joints due to salt. The remedy for both recalls is a trip to the dealer, who will inspect and make any necessary repairs. You can read the full press releases after the jump.

My girlfriend owns a Liberty, I guess I better send her to the dealers.

Good idea. Probably nothing to worry about -- it may only affect a small number of those 47,000.

Balljoints telegraph that they are not good long before they fail. If you don't ignore the sound (or don't have your stereo blasting all the time) you will know that something's wrong.

I had the same balljoint recall on my 05 Tundra. Mine were OK, but I got new ones and a free alignment. I always thought balljoints were a normal wear item that are part of a routine maintenance inspection. Some wear out more quickly due to environment and use.

All that I know is that the new Wrangler is HOT.
and they're selling like mad around Pittsburgh, PA.
I saw someone yesterday driving one of the new ones in an old-skool sparkly green paintjob that made me think "Mean Green". It was amazing. I felt like I was 12 again and wanted it lol

I have an '08 4door Wrangler Rubicon(essentially same as '09 other than new colors) and it is freakin' awesome. Only thing that sucks is that I live in Jersey which has very little places where I can flex the suspension alittle(other than huge potholes lol).
Slow as h*ll, but I highly recommend it. Not for the average Joe looking for a SUV or soccer moms, but it's definatelly a fun toy.
Haven't had any problems with it so far, other than replacing a brake light bulb a couple of weeks ago.
