FIA GT contenders roll out for first days of testing in 2009

The FIA GT series kicked off its season this week with the official test days at the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France. Nearly fifty cars are participating, including plenty of familiar faces like the Maserati MC12, Chevrolet Corvette, and Saleen S7R, Ferrari F430 and the Porsche GT3 RSR. New to the grid in GT1 are Nissan's GT-R entry and Matech Racing's Ford GT, both of which are the first cars to meet the FIA's 2010 regulations. In the GT3 category, Audi's R8 LMS joined fellow new entries like Alpina's B6 GT3 and the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The first race of the season is scheduled for Silverstone at the start of next month that will include the FIA GT Championship, FIA GT3 European Championship, GT4 European Cup, and the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo. The pics are great, but how about some video. With audio. Loud audio. And I know I've asked this question before in a comment about the R8 GT3, but, who do I need to talk to about starting an R8 GT3 team to run in ALMS GT2? It would take very little to bring that car up to GT2 spec and it would add another dimension to the Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, Corvette, Panoz, Viper, and Ford GT lineup already battling it out in ALMS GT2.

@Chuck: Thanks for that. I took a look at the GTR owners site also, very well done. Every time I race with NASA at Buttonwillow and Willow Springs there's usually some GTR guys running in the HPDE groups. Very impressive car. If you're ever there with your GTR maybe we can work a deal, I'll trade some laps in my GT2 Mazda race car for some laps in your GTR. You'll have to provide your own nomex though. ;-)

I would -kill- to have regular coverage of FIA GT in North America. This is the series to end all series for me. Amazing cars, incredible racing, great tracks. NASCAR? Formula 1? NHRA? ALMS? Keep it all, just give me this.

There's no significant difference between FIA GT and ALMS. And the TV coverage of FIA GT that I've seen is generally somewhat poor.

same here i want to watch some real raceing,nascar sucks especialy with the chase bs and too many ovals,formula 1 too much drama and rules,indy cars all use the same engine and too many ovals,nhra 1,000ft thing sucks no more 1/4 mile. so this would be great to watch!!!
