Click above for a gallery of the Volkswagen Golf GTI V50

Singapore has been singled out to receive a hotted up version of their Mark V Volkswagen GTI dubbed GTI V50. This gift to the island nation gets upgrades from APR including a Stage 1 ECU tune that adds 36 more horsepower and an additional 74 lb-ft of torque. Also underneath are a VW R32 brakes and calipers and a VW Performance exhaust. Together they'll turn your 0-to-60 run into a 5.6-second affair, which takes more than a second off the standard GTI.

Outside, the body is adorned with go-fast cosmetics like a VW Performance body kit, white turn signals, blue-tinted glass, along with some bespoke 18-inch VW wheels and Pirelli rubber to round the whole thing out. The paint job is one we'd describe as "novel." The GTI V50 will be a limited run, so expect a commensurate premium as another added feature. Check out the gallery of photos below, and the press release and tech specs after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:

Tuning by Volkswagen. Warranty by Volkswagen.

The Golf GTI V50 is pumped not just with extra horsepower but the spirit of a steed. With a Stage 1 ECU tuned to 250hp, you'll post a stunning time of 5.6 seconds in the 100 kph sprint, sending your 2-litre hatch streets ahead.

The aggressive sports styling is amplified by Pirelli "P Zero" 18-inch alloy rims with 225/40 R18 tyres that let you burn rubber in style.

To tame the speed explosion, hug the asphalt with brake discs and callipers used in the range-topping Golf GTI R32, which round off the Golf GTI V50's dynamic road-feel and sensitive handling.

These tune-ups and more will be performed by Volkswagen Centre Singapore's technical experts – using genuine and approved parts and technology – and are covered by Volkswagen's 3-year warranty.

The Golf GTI V50 is a one-time, limited offer. In Singapore only.

Come down to the Volkswagen Centre Singapore today, before they all speed off.

Those aren't bespoke wheels, they're from the Pirelli edition GTI. Check out the Ps hidden in the spokes.

Has there ever been a stock VW that would do a sub 5 second run to 60? Just curious.

This is a great move. There's so many awesome long roads and wide open spaces in Singapore. Good call VW.

I don't know, their import car tax is insanely high!

TyWright, that would be sarcasm, correct?

Huh? V50? What is the firing order?
      1 29 23 40 25 15 44 45 27 24 46 4 19 31 22 12 37 48 36 32 9 18 3 41 5 16 7 17 42 20 28 30 35 47 10 2 11 43 6 21 13 14 49 38 26 34 8 33 39 50?

      And only 246hp?

I'm not sure what's more amazing, the V50 or the fact that it's entirely constructed from hordes of siamesed VR6 engines!

(If you caught yourself thinking that 50 is not a multiple of 6, then give yourself a big ol' pat-on-the-nerd-back.)

Yes, to get more without issues on this platform you'd need a K04.

      And they can keep it....

      Ok couple of things:

1.) That's an ugly ass paintjob
2.) Why the fram Singapore only?
3.) Worst pikcha taking skills ever.

Having an APR Tune myself on my MKV GTI I can tell you that this is a freakin sweet mod. I wonder why this isn't an option here in the states. On the forums I am on, I would say at least 60-70% on there are tuned with either APR, GIAC, or something similar. I wonder how they will handle warranty claims from the added boost. Something I think about frequently with my extra boost and HP from my "chip" and what it can do to oem parts. Car looks great anyway!

I'm not sure I see what's so special about Singapore for VW but I don't really care either way.

      SKUNK!!!!
They probably don't care, I have a unitronic program in my MKIV GTI and they dealer has told me that doesn't matter. I know other dealers are different but I have a luck one.
