Shanghai Preview: Geely Tiger GT concept back with full interior and butterfly doors!

Last year, among 20 other Geely concepts, it was the Geely GT that stole the Beijing Auto Show. An original Chinese-designed coupe, it was over-the-top everywhere, but in a way that some felt came together very nicely. This year, it could be the Geely GT that steals the Shanghai Auto Salon – even over this car.
The next evolution of the GT ("Geely Tiger," which, yes, means it's the "Geely Geely Tiger") has butterfly doors, and "90% of the engineering problems" have been solved. Judging by the way Geely is talking and the way the car looks inside-and-out, the Chinese automaker is probably looking at a production run of this beastie, provided it gets enough positive feedback.

Lose the weird looking grille; and put the bigger wheels (it could be the same they used for last year's concept) and you've got a decent looking car.

I see a baleen whale. Seriously, Chinese firms, stick to what you do best, copying, just copy something exactly, make it look odd here and there, and charge 1/2 price. If you want something original, play with the big boys and grab a designer from a successful company, as we see all the major players doing all the time.

Now that is what you call CRAPTASTIC!

This car is surprisingly original and cool looking from Geely. Anyone else interested in the crash tests too?

You mean you expect it to pass a crash test? You can't have everything. Wonder how much lead is in those things, anyway?

Last time I checked, Geely was making a car that was supposed to have a 5-star Euro NCAP rating and pass Euro V emissions standards. I only hope they are serious and committed to this goal for all their cars.

A big reason why Chinese cars do so poorly in crash tests is because of their relative youth in the industry and lack of technology.

@ Sektor
You heard wrong. There is no Geely that passed EuroNCAP test.
Sektor 4:35PM (3/31/2009)
Of course. There is no Geely; or any Chinese car that has ever been through an *official* EuroNCAP test (just check their official website). I meant that Geely said on a press release their car was expected to get the 5 star rating.

It looks like an Evangelion, with Down's Syndrome. Even I would have a Genesis Coupe over one.

So I guess Geely likes the way the new Mazda's look?

What's Mazda's look got to do with this Dune navigator faced beast?

Cool car considering it's from Geeky.
The Chinese are leaping forward in terms of styling.
