Acura X6-fighter officially named ZDX

After a series of spy shots and a handful of teasers, Acura has finally given a name to its BMW X6-fighting crossover: the ZDX. Due to arrive in concept form at next week's New York Auto Show, the all-new ZDX is described by Acura as a luxury four-door sports coupe "with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility." Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales, says the "ZDX prototype is unlike anything you have ever seen from Acura." From Acura, yes. From BMW...
The Acura ZDX evolve from a lightly-veiled "concept" into a production model slated to go on sale this fall. Powertrains haven't been revealed yet, but we'd suspect either a naturally aspirated or turbocharged V6 to be available at launch. Acura's press release is posted below the fold.

Acura announced it will debut a prototype of the all-new ZDX luxury four-door sport coupe at the New York International Auto Show. The prototype features striking coupe-like styling with the added benefit of a commanding presence and flexible utility to define a new luxury category.

The production version of the ZDX prototype will bring a new level of prestige to the Acura lineup when it arrives at dealerships this fall and offer the latest advancements in performance, technology and safety.
The ZDX prototype will be introduced at the New York International Auto Show on April 8, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Acura booth.

This has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever been alive to witness-other than the X6. o_0

Please let the Zitti-X be an April Fool's Joke!

It answers a question nobody asked...
Why are these folks fighting it out in segments that haven't even fully developed/became a good business case? Sorry, "We need to do this 'cause Bavaria is doing it" is not a sound case.

Lol more like a rebuttal to t=an answer to a question nobody asked...
I'd accepted better, though, if it looked even a ion better than the X6.

I know! They should stop fighting the cars that don't matter. Acura needs to make a super car again. And don't tell the me economy sucks because people who buy 200K+ cars don't give a rip. RR sales up 28% in spite of the recession.

Everyone said the same thing when M-B developed the CLS 4 door coupe mystic and now everyone and their grandma wants to be in the catagory...For M-B it was a home run. The rest of their line up depreciates at a rapid percentage except for the CLS and I should know because I wanted to buy one used no so long ago...was surprised at how the CLS has maintain its value...

looks like they just wanted to get people to pronounce 'Z' the Canadian way.
I guess 'Zed-Ex' sounds a little funny though.

Not really... 300Z(ed)X... 350Z(ed)... Z(ed)28... Z(ed)06... it all sounds fine to us up here.
Taglane 3:18PM (3/30/2009)
How do you say Xylophone?
416Hammy 3:44PM (3/30/2009)
There's no "Z" in Xylophone, so I'd say that's a pretty stupid question.
Bloke 3:48PM (3/30/2009)
It's not the Canadian way. It's the "every English-speaking country outside of the USA" way.
Mike P. 3:59PM (3/30/2009)
Funny, I'm Canadian and I usually say 'zed'--however, I usually say 350-'zee'. Interesting. It's still the 300-'zed'-'ex' though.

that was a trick question without the suspense.

"The ZDX prototype is unlike anything you have ever seen before from Acura"
That's true, We first saw it on the Pontiac Aztek, then on the BMW's twin Azteks. Hey guy, the first two didn't work so what makes you think your Aztek will?
And they killed the RSX for the RDX and this ... genius.

The RSX was not killed to be replaced by a SUV.
IDIOT!
The TSX became the entry level car for Acura. Acura does not need a car-hatchback.
BigWill 3:25PM (3/30/2009)
I guess we've found the first buyer for the Acura Aztek 'cause speaking of "IDIOT" your reading comprehension is in the toilet.
1) I never said the RDX replaced the RSX
2) BTW if you can actually read, go check your Acura History Book:
a) Acura killed off the RSX at the end of MY 2006.
b) Acura introduced the RDX in MY 2007.
Or do you need it spelled out more clearly?
Noah 3:44PM (3/30/2009)
Yeah, I don't get what BigWill is trying to say either. It came off as sounding like you were saying that Acura killed off the RSX to be replaced by the RDX, which makes no sense.
Anyway, I think we all agree that the BMW X6 is not really a segment that needs competition. I dunno, maybe Acura can get the styling to work, but based on their recent styling changes, methinks not.
And I tried to lighten the front-face picture, but to no avail. Can't see much detail at all.

Your quote: "And they killed the RSX for the RDX and this ... genius"
you are an idiot. you said acura killed the rsx FOR the rdx.
lets add stupid to that as well.
thanks for proving me right.
BigWill 4:15PM (3/30/2009)
Mmmkay ... one more try:
1) Acura killed off the RSX in 2006, a sporty, four cylinder, two-door hatchback.
2) Acura introduces the RDX in 2007, a sporty, four cylinder, foor-door hatchback (aka CUV)
3) Killing off the RSX and it's Integra following was an incredibly dumb move
4) Introducing the RDX - a CR-V with sucky mileage - was an incredibly dumb move.
5) Introducing the ZDX when none of their current CUVs or SUVs or RLs is selling particularly well is an incredibly dumb move.
6) Thinking that RSX buyers will gravitate to a $30K TSX 4-door sedan as opposed to, say, a $24K Genesis Coupe Turbo R-Spec or a $24K V6 Camaro Coupe is an incredibly dumb move.
How's that?
