Is Lamborghini preparing a Reventon Roadster?

Lamborghini said it was going to make just 20 examples of the Reventon. And it did. But the raging bull didn't say anything about following that run up with some Reventon roadsters. At least, that's the talk coming out of the UK, where "a very reliable source inside Lamborghini" has dropped the news that nine – that's right, nine – Reventon Roadsters will be forthcoming, and they'll be even more powerful than the hardtop.
The roofless Reventons will get the same engine used in the Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, with 670 hp and 487 lb-ft. Not that you would expect anything else, but it will also get a price bump: €1,2 million ($1,633,975.25 USD). That means you – or some high-net-worth person you know – will pay a $634,000 premium to add 20 hp and lose a roof. And join a club with only eight other members...

Wow, if I had a mid-life crisis, this would be the car of choice.

I appreciate fine Italian exotics as much as the next guy, but these Reventons are just Murcielagos with a body kit, fancy paint, an a geeky instrument panel. Sure they have a mild HP bump too, but that's just basic intake/exhaust work as far as I can tell. Certainly not worth over double the price. They seem to be sold entirely on the basis of their exclusivity, to rich posers who don't appreciate the brilliance of the underlying Murcielago and just want something their other rich poser friends don't have. No wonder 8 of the 20 are currently on sale. Same deal with that new Aston One-77. They don't hold a candle to true, driver's supercars like the Enzo, Zonda F or Carerra GT.

While I agree with you on the Reventon, I did also agree with you on the One77 until I saw those shots of it without the body. That is defiantly not a re-bodied DBS.

Okay. Lets just clarify this once and for all. This is not a car marketed for performance. If you want purely fun/performance for the money, a kit-car will serve you infinitely better. Yes, the Reventon is ridiculously priced, but isn't the Murcielagos also a bit much considering it would get beat around a track by a mildly tuned EVO? What the Italian Exotics offer is passion, style, and exclusivity. You buy a Reventon because a) you love it unconditionally, b) you buy it as a piece of art, or c) you buy it as a collector's item. So if i ever win the loto, i would get one of these to roll around town and keep my RX7 for the weekends.
Also, the One-77 is a lot different from the DBS.

I know. For the extra 1,200,000 I could make a lot of them full kit and all. And 1200hp 4 turbo system as well.

Oh yeah I agree with you 100% these cars are generally not purchased for their nurburgring times or track-day talents. Of course moderately track-prepped cars like a Viper ACR or a tuned Evo with beat them at that. And I'm totally down with buying cars as pieces of art or just to enjoy - hence my appreciation for the Murceilago.
It's just that I don't think the Reventon or the One-77 offer either the performance or the art to justify their stratospheric prices, especially compared to cars like the Enzo or Zonda. They are sold just for their exclusivity. Like diamonds, they are bought not for their inherent value but for the scarcity of supply. That's BS to me. I'd buy an F430 instead, have just as much fun, and not care that there are ~5,000 other people on the planet enjoying the same.

Here's a comment for the 9 rich SOB's who can afford the car. 1.2M is obscend for a car, any car. Spend 200K on a nice fast super car and donate the remaining $1M to a charity. They will need it and you will feel better about yourself.
Your girlfriend can hum you a tune in the 200K car just as sweetly.

When is someone going to make a Reventon replica body kit for the Murcielago. I guess there might be some design infringement and lambo would never approve of it but still...

No effing way....If I were one of those 20 people who purchased the Reventon the first time, I would be furious! Lamborghini promised an exclusive car at 20 examples....they are no longer an exotic car company, but just like any other consumer product company with stupid marketing people. Of course they will sell all 9, and I'm sure people will still buy their "regular" cars.
Pandering to the rich and offering special, limited, super secret, endangered supercar iterations is nothing more than BS marketing....build another platform already!

NO! A roadster would ruin the stealth-airplane look! Don't pander to the public! Pander to the original purpose of the Reventon!
