In just a little bit, Hyundai will be allowing fans and gawkers the rare opportunity to participate in the official press introduction of its new 2010 Genesis Coupe. When new models come to market, automakers typically invite members of the media to some location where they get to listen a presentation on the technical details and marketing plans before going out for a first drive. The information shared during these events eventually gets passed on to you, the readers. Hyundai is holding its Genesis Coupe launch event as this you read this, and now you can join in by tuning in to a live streaming feed right here on the internet.
Those of you looking for insights on the Genny Coupe can head over to http://genesispresspass.com/live/ at 11am EDT. You can even still submit your questions now to the Hyundai executives via a form on the site, and they may be answered live during the Q&A part of the event. Those of you watching online will obviously have to wait for an opportunity to drive the Coupe, but you might learn something new when you tune in.

I can go test drive and buy one right now as they are on dealer lots. Why is this a big deal?

Yeah, this whole "press intro" is late but I suppose better late than never. At any rate, there are NO Genesis Coupes in West Palm Beach - so I suppose it's not such a bad thing for anyone who lives in an area that doesn't have any yet.. It took us a while to get the Sedan as well. At any rate, I'm very anxious to see one of these in person...

"....NO Genesis Coupes in West Palm Beach"
They have one in Doral.

No thanks. Underpowered, overweight, ugly as sin, and it's still just a re-badged Tiburon.

the tiburon is underrated.
MikeofLA 10:42AM (3/25/2009)
How is this a rebadged Tiburon?
Tiburon: Genesis
FWD: RWD
4cyl: 4cyl Turbo/V6
Crap interior: Rather Nice interior for the price point
No fun to drive: Heard only good things about it's driving.
On the other points, I agree... Ugly, overweight etc... but it is NOT a Rebadged Tiburon. A Mazda Tribute is a rebadged Ford Escape, a Pontiac G8 is a rebadged Holden Monero.

Okay sorry, I should have said re-modeled Tiburon. My mistake.
superman211 11:43AM (3/25/2009)
This IS as bad as you say but not a tiburon. This has all the ugly styling cues of a Korean vehicle
Jake B 1:42PM (3/25/2009)
Yeah sure, Crocs might be comfortable shoes, but I think they look heinous and would not want to be caught dead wearing a pair. Same with the Hyundai.

The Camaro weights more then the Gen Coupe.
V6 Gen Coupe 11.1 Pounds per HP
V6 Camaro 12.4 Pounds per HP
Ugly.. that's just your opinion I feel it looks nice and even nicer in person then in pictures. You cant make a car everyone likes the styling of...
I know your not saying anything about a Camaro but just putting it out there. For its class its not to bad.
lern2read fgt 2:32PM (3/25/2009)
Danny, you do realize that the V6 Camaro is $23,000 and the V6 Genesis is $29,000, right? Why don't you compare them based on price? V6 Genesis @ 3700 lbs and 300HP or Camaro SS @ 3700lbs and 426HP. Hmmm. Yes, the Camaro is overweight, but atleast it's actually making good power. The Genesis @ 11.1 lbs per HP is slow. The Camaro @ 8.8 lbs per HP, is fast.
Now let's compare the V6 Camaro to the 4-banger Genesis, considering they're both about $23,000. Camaro - 304HP, 3700 lbs = 12.1lbs per HP. Genesis - 210HP, 3400 lbs = ouch..16.4lbs per HP.
So in terms of weight:power, the $23,000 V6 Camaro can easily take down the $29,000 V6 Genesis. Both vehicles have been pulling in high 5-low 6 second 0-60 times, and I'd expect both to run mid 14-second 1/4 mile's. However, GM is claiming a 12.9 for the V8 Camaro.
Sorry, but the Genesis is a failure. The turbo model was made to target the FWD imports like the Si, Mazdaspeed 3 and Cobalt SS. The V6 model was made to take on the 370Z/G37. Hahahaha, the Genesis take on the Z/G...The Z is track ready from the factory, and the G37 is miles beyond the Genesis in terms of quality and luxury, and that comes from someone who hates everything about Nissan.

@ lern2read fgt....Not sure how you can criticize someone comparing a $2k difference in price when you're comparing two cars that are $6k different (?).
Based on starting price:
$22k = Genesis Coupe I-4 Turbo
$23k = Camaro V6
$25k = Genesis Coupe V6
$31k = Camaro V8
Also, people comparing the 2010 V8 Mustang GT to a V6 Genesis Coupe should also know that the Mustang starts at just under $29k. So yeah, for thousands more it should do better than the Genesis.
Bash Hyundai all you want, their 1st attempt at a RWD coupe is far from fail in my book.

crap interior:crap interior
Sam Abuelsamid 2:24PM (3/29/2009)
Actually if you look at Hyundai's specs for the Genesis coupe it comes in lighter than the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger
CURB WEIGHT
V6 manual / automatic
3,389 / 3,397 lbs.
2.0-liter manual / automatic
3,294 / 3,362 lbs.
The heaviest gen coupe comes in under 3,400 lbs at least 300 lbs less than a base camaro
Luis 10:27AM (3/25/2009)
This thing really is ugly. What's up with the back window? And the snout? Looks like a late 90s Sonata. The new Camaro has this beat for sure. But I still want a 370Z.

Watch out before the Hyundai lovefest fanboys coming in, I'm counting down until you are down to half a star and 25 comments below this one on how you're an idiot and how awesomely 1337 this car is in every regard.
:P

"Hyundai fanboys". That still sounds like an oxymoron.
Jon 10:42AM (3/25/2009)
I saw one of these yesterday - it's uglier in person than it is in the pictures. No clue how it drives - but I wouldn't be caught dead in this thing.

LMAO! Really? WOW! That's amazingly bad! G37 or 350Z or just get what your gut really wants a German coupe with a V8.
Daily Driver 11:00AM (3/25/2009)
Yeah this car is a crap because it isn't European.
As a car enthusiast and reading all these articles and seeing all the negative toward a car and brand is something I don't get. Regardless what they have put out, you idiots are bashing cars and brands, simply because it isn't European or Lexus. For once I am excited about what Hyundai, GM, Ford, Nissan and others are offering excellent products at such a reasonable price. If you love your European or Lexus just stay away and enjoy your freaking ride.
