2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - Click above for high-res gallery

In just a little bit, Hyundai will be allowing fans and gawkers the rare opportunity to participate in the official press introduction of its new 2010 Genesis Coupe. When new models come to market, automakers typically invite members of the media to some location where they get to listen a presentation on the technical details and marketing plans before going out for a first drive. The information shared during these events eventually gets passed on to you, the readers. Hyundai is holding its Genesis Coupe launch event as this you read this, and now you can join in by tuning in to a live streaming feed right here on the internet.

Those of you looking for insights on the Genny Coupe can head over to http://genesispresspass.com/live/ at 11am EDT. You can even still submit your questions now to the Hyundai executives via a form on the site, and they may be answered live during the Q&A part of the event. Those of you watching online will obviously have to wait for an opportunity to drive the Coupe, but you might learn something new when you tune in.

No thanks. Underpowered, overweight, ugly as sin, and it's still just a re-badged Tiburon.
Actually if you look at Hyundai's specs for the Genesis coupe it comes in lighter than the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger
        V6 manual / automatic
        3,389 / 3,397 lbs.
        2.0-liter manual / automatic
        3,294 / 3,362 lbs.

The heaviest gen coupe comes in under 3,400 lbs at least 300 lbs less than a base camaro
        • 6 Years Ago
Okay sorry, I should have said re-modeled Tiburon. My mistake.
Danny, you do realize that the V6 Camaro is $23,000 and the V6 Genesis is $29,000, right? Why don't you compare them based on price? V6 Genesis @ 3700 lbs and 300HP or Camaro SS @ 3700lbs and 426HP. Hmmm. Yes, the Camaro is overweight, but atleast it's actually making good power. The Genesis @ 11.1 lbs per HP is slow. The Camaro @ 8.8 lbs per HP, is fast.

        Now let's compare the V6 Camaro to the 4-banger Genesis, considering they're both about $23,000. Camaro - 304HP, 3700 lbs = 12.1lbs per HP. Genesis - 210HP, 3400 lbs = ouch..16.4lbs per HP.

So in terms of weight:power, the $23,000 V6 Camaro can easily take down the $29,000 V6 Genesis. Both vehicles have been pulling in high 5-low 6 second 0-60 times, and I'd expect both to run mid 14-second 1/4 mile's. However, GM is claiming a 12.9 for the V8 Camaro.

Sorry, but the Genesis is a failure. The turbo model was made to target the FWD imports like the Si, Mazdaspeed 3 and Cobalt SS. The V6 model was made to take on the 370Z/G37. Hahahaha, the Genesis take on the Z/G...The Z is track ready from the factory, and the G37 is miles beyond the Genesis in terms of quality and luxury, and that comes from someone who hates everything about Nissan.

        the tiburon is underrated.
This IS as bad as you say but not a tiburon. This has all the ugly styling cues of a Korean vehicle
        • 6 Years Ago
How is this a rebadged Tiburon?
        Tiburon: Genesis
        FWD: RWD
        4cyl: 4cyl Turbo/V6
Crap interior: Rather Nice interior for the price point
No fun to drive: Heard only good things about it's driving.

On the other points, I agree... Ugly, overweight etc... but it is NOT a Rebadged Tiburon. A Mazda Tribute is a rebadged Ford Escape, a Pontiac G8 is a rebadged Holden Monero.

Yeah sure, Crocs might be comfortable shoes, but I think they look heinous and would not want to be caught dead wearing a pair. Same with the Hyundai.
The Camaro weights more then the Gen Coupe.

V6 Gen Coupe 11.1 Pounds per HP
V6 Camaro 12.4 Pounds per HP

Ugly.. that's just your opinion I feel it looks nice and even nicer in person then in pictures. You cant make a car everyone likes the styling of...

I know your not saying anything about a Camaro but just putting it out there. For its class its not to bad.
I want to hump this car. It's that frickin' badass.
This thing really is ugly. What's up with the back window? And the snout? Looks like a late 90s Sonata. The new Camaro has this beat for sure. But I still want a 370Z.

"Hyundai fanboys". That still sounds like an oxymoron.
Watch out before the Hyundai lovefest fanboys coming in, I'm counting down until you are down to half a star and 25 comments below this one on how you're an idiot and how awesomely 1337 this car is in every regard.

Well, it's quite obvious why all these people are bashing this car. It poses a threat to several cars all the while being mostly cheaper and that makes them uncomfortable. I mean, look at what cars you could say this car can run with - G37, 3 series, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, and Z. And while it may not surpass the performance of all of these, it's damn close. Yea, you can pick it apart by magazine racing and saying its .2 seconds quicker than this or that, but let's all be realistic here - it would come down to the driver.
Sorry but I think if you take the top-of-the-line cars from those you listed, and took the top-of-the-line Genesis to compare back to back you would find the Hyundai coming up short. I'm not a hater, and don't doubt this car really changes things but lets not get carried away.

The performance-per-dollar ratio is there but it's not going to offer the driving experience of the Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, or 370Z. Much less the BMW 3 series or the G37. This car is good in its own right, but it's not a world beater.

I can't wait till these Hyundai kids start riding the rear of my GTO thinking their V6 has something to prove...
Twist my words any way you want to make yourself feel better but never did I say you would take the top of the line car from any of these models nor did I say it would beat them. I merely said it could run with them and be close to their performance. No one is getting carried away but you.

And it's funny you say it's not going to offer the driving experience of the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger. It seems like overnight everyone loves these cars now. It used to be anytime any of them was mentioned something was thrown around about them not handling, being straightline only, or some other BS like that. And who's to say it doesn't offer the driving experience? Have you driven one? I haven't but at the same time I haven't driven the Challenger or the updated versions of the other 2. And I'm not saying it is better either. I just have little doubt that it could hang with them and is getting a much worse thrashing than it really should.

Of course, on the same note, does the old GTO even offer the same driving experience that the Mustang, Camaro, Challenger, Z, and even the Genesis Coupe now offer? Much less the 3 series and G37? It's not and never was a world beater. When you think about it, the GTO and the Genesis Coupe have a lot in common in the way they were received by the enthusiast crowd...

      Hate = Fear.
i think some of the above posts prove this more and more.
Just a year ago, people didn't even consider Hyundai & Infiniti competitors. The simple fact that they can be mentioned in the same sentence has being competitive speaks volumes! Hyundai Genesis Coupe poses a major challenge. This is their first RWD race car and all the GM and Ford guys are shaking in their boots. The GTO is discontinued. The G37 is way more expensive. The Mustang and the Camero comes with their own stigmas and the Challenger is a niche within a niche. These are just common opinions that resonate with the consumer.

people talked much noise about the Genesis Sedan and it's winning awards left and right, so i expect nothing less when it comes to the Coupe. Both winners coming from a company that still posts profits quarterly. Give respect where it is due.

Yeah this car is a crap because it isn't European.

As a car enthusiast and reading all these articles and seeing all the negative toward a car and brand is something I don't get. Regardless what they have put out, you idiots are bashing cars and brands, simply because it isn't European or Lexus. For once I am excited about what Hyundai, GM, Ford, Nissan and others are offering excellent products at such a reasonable price. If you love your European or Lexus just stay away and enjoy your freaking ride.

      @ MikeofLA

      Monaro : Commodore
      2 Door : 4 Door
      LS1/2 : L76/LS3
      GTO : G8

You got the Holden part right but you were WAY off on the model.

As for the Genesis, after sitting in one I'm not impressed with the interior. I'm sure it'll be a fun car for the price point but could the interior get any more Kia-like?!
        Yeah it's a loser. FAIL!
I saw one of these yesterday - it's uglier in person than it is in the pictures. No clue how it drives - but I wouldn't be caught dead in this thing.
LMAO! Really? WOW! That's amazingly bad! G37 or 350Z or just get what your gut really wants a German coupe with a V8.
I can go test drive and buy one right now as they are on dealer lots. Why is this a big deal?
"....NO Genesis Coupes in West Palm Beach"

        They have one in Doral.

Those early bashers jumping on the bandwagon--sure you ain't the competition?

So glad nobody buys your childish opinions when looking for their next ride.
