The folks charged with recasting perceptions of a brand aren't unlike home run hitters: a lot more misses than hits, but when they do hit it's often spectacular. This particular at-bat with Vauxhall, however, is probably a foul tip at best. The folks at the brand behind the griffin, whose logo was redesigned last year to be more dynamic and contemporary, has teamed with British shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey to create a Vauxhall Collective "luxury driving set."
Kelsey is from the Jimmy Choo/Mulberry end of the fashion spectrum, and was asked to create line that celebrated "the great British Road trip." That's what he did... if you're going on a road trip with a '70s-era Elton John or Liberace. The three pieces – steering wheel cover, studded driving gloves, and keychain – will run you £195 (US $284). If you think these are for you – and you know who you are, but we can't believe you drive a Vauxhall – there will only be a limited run of 25, so you better get ordering.

Jonathan Kelsey designs for Vauxhall, Limited edition leather driving set available now: Renowned shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey completes his Vauxhall Collective commission with a luxurious driving set available to buy.
Hailed as the "British Louboutin", shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey brings glamour and sophistication to British drivers with his luxury driving set, consisting of key fob, driving gloves and steering wheel cover in his trade mark metallic leather and heavy black stitching. Studded gold leather driving gloves, complement the steering wheel cover's metallic black and brown leather perfectly and the beautifully crafted key fob completes the set.
Jonathan was tasked by Vauxhall to design a piece on the theme of the Great British Road Trip, as part of the Vauxhall Collective programme, a scheme to support up and coming creatives in the UK. Having worked with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry including Jimmy Choo, Jonathan took inspiration from the materials he worked with day to day as a shoe designer.
"When I first got the brief from Vauxhall, I started to think about the idea of a road trip," commented Kelsey, "so I decided to focus on the pleasure of the road trip, being out on the open road and the idea of driving being a stylish adventure. I wanted to create something that had a very luxurious feel to it and also celebrated the glamour of road trips in days gone by."
The stunning driving set, a limited run of only 25, is available through the Vauxhall Collective website and costs £195.

WARNING!
Steering wheel fitted to the wrong side of the car!
USE CAUTION!
Jon 9:04AM (3/24/2009)
Yeah, it's also like that in Australia. I get slapped with warning signs just about everywhere in public places!!! It's so irritating!
and no, the steering wheel is not on the 'wrong' side, it's on the 'right' side. And no, we don't drive on the 'wrong' side of the road, we drive on the 'other' side of the road. :D

Limited run of 25 ...... oh i know what happened.
After the "designer" presented their design, Vauxhaul was contractually obligated to sell the crap, thus a limited run of 25.

Let's see ... Jonathan Kelsey gear for an average repmobile. A run of just 25 examples. And All Fools' Day just around the corner.
