Top Gear Russia debuts, hide the women and vodka

The Russians have succeeded where the Americans have failed: they got a local version of Top Gear on the air. It's got all the familiar elements: fast cars, oddball challenges, timed laps, beautiful shots, beautiful women, explosions, mayhem, and it's even got The Stig, who drives in Russian. Some suggest the versions without subtitles could be better than the versions with, if you aren't attuned to Russian humor. Yes, the Russian translations are pretty awful and a lot is lost in translation. I watch this and I find myself laughing as much as when I watch British Top Gear. The Russian guys are great, and Mikhail Petrovsky is a fantastic presenter, he's definitely my favorite. Nikolai Fomenko is also very good (he's the Clarkson of the bunch), but I'm not crazy about Oskar.
Regardless, the show is very, very good. Certainly loooooads better than the awful Aussie version.

The Russians have succeeded where the Americans have failed. It would have been better if they failed. Dull and predictable, horribly scripted and badly hosted - hosts clearly say pre-scripted and rehearsed jokes that sound, well, like pre-scripted and rehearsed jokes. Even Stig sucks - looks like driving in Moscow was the only driving school he attended. The settings are the same - cars and 3 hosts, but where Top Gear scores 10/10, this is simply what it is: Top Gear to Top Gear Russia is the same as Aston Martin to Lada.

This is for those in Russia, and it seems like a great show, in my opinion far better than top gear Australia.

Haven't seen the Aussie's version for I don't care much for spin-offs when the original is still on.
I agree that it is for those in Russia and perhaps by the Russian standards it is great (and it is patriotic, hurray!). However, this really pales in comparison to the original. On its own Lada is not such a bad car, but comparing to Aston Martin...

and fries and onion ring and a milk shake and a double chocolate chip cookie and a doughnut.........all in one meal mind you.
