The last time we heard from Dale Vince and his wind-powered Zero Carbonista electric vehicle project, the car didn't even have a name (but progress was being made on the vehicle nonetheless). Now, well, the car still doesn't have an official name, but there is a new video of the work being done on the car and Vince is tossing out a few options for that whole name thing. To wit:

  • "The car with no name"
  • "Symbol" (you know, like Prince)
  • "Mojo" (no longer a fav)
  • "Zephyr"
  • "Nemesis" (the once and current front runner)

In other news, our old friend Danny, of Danny's Contentment, also paid Vince a visit and put up some posts on the meeting. See Part 1 and Part 2 or watch the videos after the jump.

      Interesting, but:
      1. The snarkiness about other people's approaches is unattractive. The more approaches attempted, the better to find the best.
      2. Great, another useless sports car.

He reminds me of Don Quixote! I am all for charging the batteries of your EV with a windmill, but calling the EV a wind powered car is a rash indulgence. If he keeps trying I guess it's possible he might come up with something innovative, but this isn't it.

Brn I am sorry to hear that you have a short attention span. The guy owns / runs a wind turbine power company in the UK which he uses electricity from to charge up his converted Lotus Exige EV.

I thought the 2nd video was fantastic as it touches on a lot of the EV, power generation and other issues that we face at the moment. Such as does global capitalism fail society due to its short term return on investment demands, how to sustainably produce power for EV's, the economics of wind power, can the current UK grid deliver the power needed to recharge all of the UK's 30 million cars if replaced or converted to EV's etc. Some of his figures are a bit off e.g. average ICE efficiency of only 15% where as some modern diesels manage 40%.

This guy immediately earned my respect when he stated that he puts doing the right thing before large profits! He reminds me of a UK version of Martin Eberhard.

      Wind powered? Where's the sail?

I watched the video after the link and all I could wonder was who funds this guy?

I tried watching the embedded videos, but my short attention span gave up a few minutes into each of them. During those minutes, there was no useful content.

        AV -> EV

I was wondering if that was the case, but you couldn't get it from the video on their web page. Sorry ABG for not being able to finish your videos.

So this is an AV. Calling it wind powered sounds more like a marketing gimmick.

The "sail" is on the blades of a wind turbine on top of a tower. It isn't directly powered by the wind, it is powered by wind generated electricity.

Impressive effort, but as a "one off" effort, it doesn't look like he is planning a major manufacturing effort.

Nemesis? It's a wind powered electric car, so why not give it a name reflecting that more?
      What about:
