Rest in Pickup: Man buried in 1967 Chevrolet truck

Albert Dancy Jr. of Sutton, West Virginia told his family that when he passed away, he wanted to be buried in his 1967 Chevy pickup truck. On February 15, Mr. Dancy was unfortunately shot and killed in a domestic dispute, so his son Adam gave his father the burial he always wanted. Dancy, an avid hunter and fisherman, was laid to rest in full camouflage with his beloved pickup, an Old Timer pocket knife and a Remington rifle.
To ensure that the buried truck caused as little harm to the environment as possible, it was stripped of its engine and transmission, brake fluid and tires. Dancy's son said his father owned the truck for as long as he could remember, and that the unique burial was the last thing he could do for his dad.

Loved his truck to death, literally. Unique burial, I wonder how long it took to actually dig that hole.

Depending on the size of excavating equipment that left the "teeth" marks in the soil behind the men, it could have been a matter of minutes. Likely used it to get the truck in the hole too.

What I wanna know is, when the truck finally rusts out, how much the soil will cave in due to the newly made void? Doesn't look like the truck is in a Vault of some type, and neither is the coffin.

It's great that they were able to carry out his final wishes. RIP.

He was killed defending his *ex-wife* against an intruder. So, he went out with honor, anyway.

I just love this quote....
Adam Dancy said he didn't mean for it to be an Egyptian burial ritual or anything. If he had, the truck and gun aren't going to be much use.
"We gave him a truck with no tires. We gave him a gun with no shells," Dancy said. "He'll be s-t out of luck."

Yeah, that part was pretty funny.

Didn't go for the more obvious "Rust in peace", eh?

why would any man put such a burden on to his living family after he died ?

It's not that bad of a burden, especially if you compare it to burials in Japan. Formal Japanese funerals easily cost $50-100k.
As for burying it with him instead of his son keeping the truck, the son was simply keeping to his dad's wishes.

He didn't put a burden on anyone. He said he'd like to be buried in his truck. His family didn't have to do it. They chose to do it to honor him.
I don't get all the "hate" on this story. This guy died defending his ex-wife (!) and likely the mother of his children. At least one of those kids decided to honor him by granting him a final wish. It seems pretty noble all around to me.
May Mr. Dancy rest in peace. And to the "haters" out there, may you be lucky enough to have someone in your life who respects you as much as this guy's family clearly does.

Umm...they only had to dig a larger-than-average hole. That's not much of a burden, is it?
gslippy 6:25PM (3/16/2009)
GM is being buried in their trucks, too.

How about..."you might be a d-bag if"....
The man loved his truck and his simple, and I'm sure happy life. Hell, I'd be willing to bet he was a good bit happier than you or that other dimwit Tommy up the page. You guys are obviously pretty unsatisfied with yourselves if you have to hate on a guy for having some last wishes. Good luck in life gentlemen, I'm sure your attitudes will get you far. Maybe when you die, a couple of jackasses will comment on a blog about your lifestyle like an idiot too and call you names when they never even knew you. You guys are real winners.

I can't reply to 3seriesisking, so I'll reply to my comment -
It was supposed to be funny.
Christ guys lighten up a bit. The guy got buried in his truck - I find a little humor in that. I'm glad the guy got his wish, and I harbor no ill will toward the guy (or truck owners in general).
A lot of rednecks go to see Jeff Foxworthy. They can laugh at themselves because they are comfortable in their own skins.
By the way 3seriesisking, I am very happy with my life. You might be happier with yours if you stopped dispensing "holier than thou" on blogs.
