Chrysler to Canada: Pay up, or we leave

Chrysler LLC President and Vice Chairman Tom Lasorda spoke to Canadian Members of Parliament during a hearing in Ottawa on Wednesday, and based on the account published by ReportOnBusiness.com, it seems like it was really just a venue at which Lasorda was able to read off a list of demands from his employers.
They were:
- The Canadian feds must provide the Pentastar with $2 to $3 Billion USD in bailout loans.
- The CAW needs to visit the barber to the tune of a 25% reduction in pay and benefits.
- The Canadian Revenue Agency must essentially surrender in its tax battle against the automaker, taking no additional action against it. Presently, the CRA has a half-billion dollar lien against the Brampton plant and has withheld hundreds of millions more in tax rebates.

LOL!!
Seriously though. I don't think Chrysler is in any position to make any demands. They're playing victim and they might as well....actually, they'd fit right in with the Canadian socialist mentality. =]

While I love his grill-everything and big-bold southwestern flavored ethos, he loses manly-man points for that slight lisp that I just can't listen past...

Now there all not threatening to leave, but you get the point. Everyone is asking their home/local government for money/loans/favorable tax terms/whatever.

Ben, not so much of a socialist, try that tactics with Mr Harper, Canadian prime minister, oil-friendly corporate guy, who a) doesn't like Ontario, b) doesn't like Ontario manufacturing industry, c) doesn't really admit that Canada is in recession that will have a long lasting effect on the country.
So he'd probably say "screw you guys, go home".

What do you get when you cross a Home Depot store with Cerebrus? I know there must be a punchline there. I hope every Canadian reader will email Stephen Harpers office and tell him to boot these thugs out of the country!

You never negotiate with a terrorist. It's like feeding a stray cat - you give in once and they be right back at your door tomorrow.

If I were Canada, I'd tell them to get lost. Since when is it government duty to help a mismanaged company survive a few more days?
