VIDEO: Overpass is one seriously efficient convertible maker

Click above to watch video after the jump
The above video is all the reminder you should ever need to pay close attention to the signs posted on bridges all over the country informing motorists of their height. We're not quite sure where exactly this particular span is located, but it's 11' 8" height is a good bit lower than what seems to be typical. For this minor little engineering oversight, at least a handful of large trucks have been morphed into instant convertibles. Let's just hope that some of these drivers placed a check in the box for the optional insurance when renting their moving trucks. Thanks for the tip, Stephen!

That would be a very, very bad time not to get that crapo-add-on insurance from UHaul, Ryder, or Budget. Ouch!

When it happens that frequently there is a problem with the signage. Fire some civil servants.

Yeah, you're right - it _couldn't_ be the stupid drivers too oblivious to where they're trying to drive their truck....
First rule of driving a truck, of any size - know how high it is.
Second rule - ALWAYS read the low clearance signs, and heed them.

It looks like there is a hanging sign just before the bridge with the supposed same height restriction. They clear that sign every time...
Something is wrong here!
why not the LS2LS7? 6:25PM (3/10/2009)
Of course they clear that sign. If they hit the sign even though they'd clear the bridge, they'd sue the city for putting the sign there.
I'm sure the 11'8" is accurate for the bridge. So what do you do, put the sign at 11'6" and then get sued when someone says "I was 11'7", I knew I'd clear".
So you have to make the forward sign (11'8") accurate. The bridge is what it is, and the flashing sign has to be a little bit higher.

not the city's fault. if you look at the video it didnt happen in the same day or the same month (look at the trees, different seasons) so the city knows and the signs must be correct, dumb drivers are the reason.

I can just about read the sign from where the video is. Drivers are not paying attention. Also rentals are ppl many times not knowing what they are doing.

I hope they got the insurance.

That probably hurt! Going from 45mph-0 in just a few feet. Crazy!

Sometimes when they repave the road, the clearance changes and they forget to change the sign. This might be the case here as the clearance might not actually be 11'8".

One would think that would be part of the construction project. At the same time, you would think it would be remeasured after that many incidents. There can't be THAT many idiots driving box trucks, can there?
Pengwin 9:08PM (3/10/2009)
no because if you look at the video it didnt happen in the same day or the same month (look at the trees, different seasons) so the city knows and the signs must be correct, dumb drivers
