As Nissan cancels its Silvia replacement, and the Toyobaru saga stumbles along, Hyundai actually has a hot product on the pavement ready to scoop up import tuners jonesing for a rear-drive plaything. The Genesis Coupe is just arriving in U.S. dealerships, but in Korea, the car's been on the streets a while already. As such, drivers there have been hard at work modding and personalizing their rides, giving us an idea of what to expect when they start hitting the streets in earnest on this side of the Pacific. Our good friend (and O.G. Jalop) Mike Spinelli pretty much nails it when he says, "Oh Civic with stove-pipe exhaust, the bell tolls for thee."

Another Matte finish.
I would love to see one on a street.

There's a matte black Rolls Royce Phantom that I've seen multiple times here in Los Angeles. Sometimes it looks really cool, other times it looks like it's been primered. It depends on the light. My understanding, though, is that the finish is relatively fragile.

A Gen Coupe forum? Shouldn't the car be on the street at least 1 year to earn its own Forum.
By the way i saw one at a dealership, the paint was very shiny and reflective.

Samurai Jack,
First of all of all if its been 25 years since some one has called you kid and you drive a mustang GT and you are proud of it that means the last time some1 called u kid, you were at the ripe old age of ZERO! The genesis looks better and is a better value than a GT Mustang primarily because it can probably (I don't know for sure) go around a corner, unlike a mustang which does not have a steering wheel (speculative: why would it need one?) Bottom line. you drive a mustang. shut up. no talking.
Btw.. i dunno ppl here bye

@Alistair
It also depends on how clean he keeps the RR, he's also a grade A douche bag.

"GAY" as an insult is so 20th century. How about joining the rest of us in the 21st?
Samurai Jack 5:32PM (3/07/2009)
I don't need to be gay to point out that you're being an insulting knuckle dragger.
What's the name of the dealership you work at again? I want to make sure I never spend a dime there.
It's been at least 25 years since anyone has called me a kid. And I don't need a Genesis coupe as I'm quite happy with my Mustang GT. Which, as I said, will never cross the threshold of any dealership the employs "Chiefstang". Chief wanker is more like it.

ew mustang gt
Samurai Jack 6:13PM (3/07/2009)
Hey, we can agree to disagree Abbas. I like the Mustang. I also like the Genesis Coupe and lots of other cars. But one car at a time is enough for me.

i just don't like when a cheap korean brand "revolutionizes" the automarket with lexus' scrap designs and some quick marketing.

Looking at all those modded Genesis makes me sick. At this rate the Gen. Coupe will get get played out REAL fast, this is definitely the next Integra.
Corner49 2:27PM (3/09/2009)
What's funny is that you said you don't like when someone "revolutionizes the industry with lexus scrap designs"......ironic, because Lexus did the same thing 10 years ago with Mercedes designs.
abbas350 5:32PM (3/09/2009)
agreed, i just don't like korean cars

I'm not sold on this design. I saw one in person at the Auto Show and felt the whole car look muddled and confused. Yes, it's different. It's no Mustang or Camaro for sure, but I worry that the design might turn people off.
In profile, the wheelbase looks too long. The rear window 'droop' looks like a mistake rather than a purposeful decision. The front end looks pinched. This is not to say it's an ugly car, just one lacking direction and theme. A 'refresh' might make a huge difference.
I also feel that if you're going to use the Genesis name, at least make the Coupe bear passing familiarity with the sedan, not like an extraterrestrial entity. I am still a fan of what Hyundai is doing with this car, I just think they botched the execution.
