REPORT: Renault to relaunch Gordini performance brand in 2010

While it may seem like an inopportune time to exhume a performance marque, that's just what Renault is up to, says Car. According to the U.K. glossy, Renault will relaunch the Gordini brand in Europe next year with a new Twingo variant. You may recall that it was recently revealed that the French automaker's plans to bring back its storied Alpine product line has been axed, but the decades-dormant Gordini is apparently a different matter altogether.
The new lineup of hot hatches will slot in above current Renaultsport offerings, with the aforementioned Twingo reportedly being followed by Clio and Megane Coupe models. Like the Gordini-tuned cars of yore, the new models are tipped to wear blue paint and white stripes along with various performance upgrades that will make them a likely foil to Fiat's reborn Abarth lineup.

The only thing magical will be the stomping that they all will receive from the Focus RS.

^^^ with the power the RS has it will only be faster at anything above 3rd gear. Until then the fact that it will be destroying its expensive grippy tires will make it marginally faster if at all than the others.
That much power even without any torque steer (which I have read it still has some) makes a FWD car just plain boring beside at "passing" speed on the interstate. Wheel spin is not all that exciting.

Thanks for the picture a friend had a R8 Gordini like the one on the right ( it was red or orange).
It was an awesome car for its era, 4 disks, halogen Cibie lights.
It was not reliable though. I remember problems with the cooling system. It had a glass overflow bottle that kept cracking.........

Anybody remember the Renault Gordini from the 70's? I wanted my mom to get one SO bad! That went nowhere, but, during the gas crisis I was able to trick her into a Rabbit GTI and I began her love affair with Peugeots. I , of course, ended up with her her bad ass 72 baby blue T-bird. wish I still had all of the above, they were all pretty cool.

Autoexpress say the Gordini models will sit just BELOW the RenaultSport cars, contrary to the article above.
So what is the truth?
