REPORT: Renault's Alpine revival is D.O.A.
Just like that, it's over. Renault had been working on bringing back the Alpine nameplate with a sports car being co-developed as the Nissan 200SX. But according to Autocar, economic strain has led to the vaporization of both programs, even though development was quite far along. Rumors have been swirling for a long time about the revival of the Alpine offshoot, with a mid-mounted engine driving the rear wheels, or even sharing Nissan's 370Z platform. There seems to be no return to the planning for now, so we'll just keep gazing dreamily at past Alpines until something new pops up. [Source: Autocar]

Looks like your guys' spellchecker is DOA too.
I really was looking forward to seeing what car would be worthy enough to carry the Alpine moniker. It's a shame.

This is quite sad, I really love 'revivials'!

Terrible news! This was an amazing project. I hope the camaro sales do well and convince Renault to rethink this.

That's a real drag. The idea of a new Renault hot rod with some of the Nissan GT-R lovin' would have been absolutely spectacular! That turbocharged 6 cylinder dumping out several hundred horsepower in a light weight Alpine chassis would have been positively orgasmic!
Way to kill my wet dream there Frenchie.

Everytime they mention the 200SX platform being cancelled a part of me dies inside. oh, and it sucks that the Alpine is cancelled too, but it was never going to make it to North America anyways.

this. sucks.
Perhaps my least favorite part of this recession (other than getting laid-off or course), is all the awesome cars that are getting canceled left and right. That Renault would have been really cool, but since I live in the US and couldn't have driven it anyway, I was really hoping that the 200SX would come around. Arghhhh..
