Geneva Preview: Hyundai HED-6 Concept leaks out

We're still just over a week away from the Geneva Motor Show, but thanks to the folks at Autotelegraaf, we've got the first official images of Hyundai's HED-6 concept. The CG renderings stay true to the sketch released last week, evolving the current Hyundai crossover design language into a more edgy, sculpted and less anonymous package. Motivation comes courtesy of a 175 hp 1.6-liter GDi four-cylinder equipped with a turbo and a direct injection, and the new mill is expected to find its way into Hyundai's future small and mid-size offerings, including the i30.
When the HED-6 makes it to production, the CUV is likely to carry the iX35 moniker and be built along side the Kia Sportage – due for its own facelift in 2010 – at the automaker's facility in Slovakia. The iX35 could find its way to the States as the next Tucson, but we'll know more when we're on the floor in Geneva next month.

while it may look like this or that
if the size is right, this will pose a tough market against the Nissan Murano
Nissan screwed up the 2nd gen Murano, but Hyundai comes to the rescue and shows Nissan what the 2nd gen Murrano should have looked like
I actually find it very attractive for a CUV and think they will sell quite well against th4 Murrano and Edge

Does no one in America know of Mazdas or what? lol. The CX-7 is very popular here in Canada in that segment. You rarely see an Edge here and the new Murano is even less popular.

"May look like"????
It's a complete rip off of the Ford Iosis Concept!

HED-6 looks to be rather a progression/derivative from a theme set in Hyundai QarmaQ concept car unveiled in Geneva two years ago.

Also, the recent concepts from its European design studio reveals similar theme for the front end treatment.

it's all in line with what they have been doing.
Such comments as 'blatant ripoff' just makes me laugh. so ignorant... well...except some chinese cars that are exact clones...

Uhh, Randy -
You may have a point if the HED-6 didn't follow in the lines of previous HED concepts from Hyundai (such as the HED 5 and 4).
The HED-6 has many of the styling cues from the HED-2 concept (in particular, the front and rear) which dates back to 2006.
http://www.supercarnews.net/2006-hyundai-hed-2-genus-concept
(Plus, keep in mind that many of the HED designs were designed by Hyundai's European design team - so it's not surprising that concepts arising from Europe would share some similarities since the designers probably all went to the same design schools.)
Anyway, the HED-6 is a pretty decent design (tho, I don't particularly care for the shape of the headlights/taillights and how they are incorporated into the side flares).

Why are people surprised that Hyundai stole a design from another car? This is how they always made their cars...

The front end looks like it's going to party like it's 1999.

Anybody else sick and tired of every single new car putting these square exhaust tips as if they were sooo avant garde and coool?
Enough! When every other carmaker is now putting them on in every damn vehicle, it's not "cool" anymore. The fad cannot end sooner.

I was afraid to say it.
This is like 3rd or 4th vehicle that makes me ask whether Hyundai has any designers at all. :(
Glenn 3:27PM (2/18/2009)
Exactly! Which is why a foreign automaker is brining us this design/concept instead of an American one. I would love to buy a Ford Kuga in the US.
Hamud 1:08PM (2/18/2009)
Ford Kuga, is that you in there???

Look at the hood, headlights, grille, bottom lip. Nothing's the same. You need new glasses my friend. Oh wait...it's got 4 wheels! Hyundai is such a copy off Ford. (Yeah, I'm sure they want to be seen as a Ford right now, lol!)

the taillamps looks to be too big for its size. it makes the whole look a bit too cartoonish. and its got that big Grin on its face in the front...
i will have to see the production version of it. quite stylish lines and volume for the segment.
