Daytona 500 Open Thread

It's not much of a secret that many of us here at Autoblog don't follow NASCAR very closely. That said, we don't presume the same of you guys and gals in Readerland. So, if you're presently tuned in to the race and want to chat about the proceedings amongst yourselves, head on down to the comment section below. As always, we'll have a wrap-up post on the race either later tonight or sometime tomorrow. Keep it civil and enjoy the race.

I for one, am glad my ritual Sunday nap is back. I never really could make it through more than 5 laps. It's too bad Audi is pulling out of ALMS and F1 doesn't really air during normal human times.
Am I the only one that always somehow manages to ruin the F1 results for himself? It's funny and sad that they'll put it on SpeedTV.com's main page as a huge spoiler before it's aired in the US. It took me 20 minutes the other day to find out the finishing order of those Gatorade Duels.
Maybe I just need to find a F1 RSS torrent feed and just ignore the news (Hey, I already ignore 98% of it).

I worked during the whole race. Worked in the bar section so I got to watch some of it. So basicly I got to see the best parts of the race. The beginning. The crashes in the middle. And the ending. It was like watching your favorite movie on TV without commercials!

The new headlight decals on the Fusion look better than last year's.

I've been a NASCAR fan since the 80's and the only way to see a race was to go to the track or the occasional ESPN coverage with Bob Jenkins.
That said- What the hell? Digger's Adventures? I had to turn that crap off and listen to MRN radio coverage. Even my 7yr old son though that was stupid.
Cut the carp and lets see some fender to fender racing.

The ride I'm driving this week has Sirius, and I actually had MRN on during the pre-race coverage while I was out running errands. I hadn't ever listened to it before, and I have to say the coverage was both entertaining and good.

As a nascar fan i will tell you Alex most weeks i just mute the TV and listen to the MRN guys. They are so much more easier on the ears than the TV clowns on all the networks.

Thank you Jay... I thought it just might be me. WTF is the demographic for "Digger"??? FOX is helping reinforce bad stereotypes of NASCAR fans with this mindless, juvenile animation (IMO).
I don't have kids & openly shouted at my TV that even children would find a reason to flip-off this cartoon crap. Your 7 year old seemed to agree (with no "bird" calls?)

Apparent concerns that the cars have gone 25 laps without a yellow flag! How will they hold it together?

A form of entertainment that, once upon a time, was about racing stock cars.

NBA All-Star Game festivities, or a new episode of "The Simpsons" in HD for the first time ever.
Why must Fox and TNT plot against me like this?

I haven't paid attention since Bill Elliott was driving a #9 Thunderbird....which actually looked like a Thunderbird.

I can't believe says blocking like that is legal. How ridiculous. I'd do it every time. No one would ever pass me without causing a wreck.
