BREAKING: First appearance of Acura LMP1 car at ALMS winter test

Acura's new ARX-02a race car made its first public appearance this morning at the American Le Mans series winter test at Sebring in Florida. Acura announced its move up to the LMP1 class in the American Le Mans Series at last year's Detroit Grand Prix, but hasn't yet provided any details on the car. More information, including hopefully some news on the powerplant, will be announced later today. Unfortunately, Acura will be entering the LMP1 class just as Audi and its indomitable R10 are leaving. Though Audi has announced it will replace the aging R10 with a new car called the R15, it has pulled out of the both the ALMS and the European Le Mans Seres for 2009 and will only race the new car at the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Check some side view images... nothing "extra high" on the Acura that hasn't been featured on the Audi, Porsche, Lola, etc

curious to hear if anyone has any times? I'm excited to see what Acura can do. Considering, they did really well in their Freshmen year and nearly dethroned Porsche in their second year.

Bah Who the F cares about Acura, I'm dying to see the new Audi R15. Besides that Acura might look new, but it needs to get used to seeing he R15's taillights.

The R15 didn't participate in this ALMS open test... so you get the Acura P1 cars
The R15 should beat the P1 Acuras... one is an update (Audi) the other is brand new to the class (Acura).

Why did you read an Acura headline to ask who cares about Acura?

Probably good enough to scare audi away. Weenies. We were all set for an epic battle, too.

My sentiments exactly.

Who's driving? I hear Jensen Button and Ruebens Barrichello need jobs.

Scott Sharp brings the PATRON $$$ & IMO, Rubens or Jensen is not an upgrade to David Brabham. Gil DeFerran's driver line up is also solid.

Dario Franchitti has been named as the third driver for Sebring.

Dario also better than Jensen & Rubens... has sports car experience too.
