Driving School: Mother arrested for letting 11-year-old daughter drive

A mother in Tel Aviv had her license revoked by local police when she let her 11-year-old daughter drive her car. Israeli traffic police pulled the car over when they saw a shorter-than-usual driver behind the wheel, and when questioning the mother, she answered that it was a reward for getting a good grade in school. After the child reportedly showed interest in driving, the mother pledged that if the child got an A on her exam, she'd let her drive. Unbelievably, she kept her promise. Police detained mom and daughter, revoked the mother's license and confiscated the car for a period of 30 days.

I could understand letting your kid drive in a parking lot or something, but in real traffic?!

That's what I was thinking. Not around town or in a city or anything. That's just stupid.

Oh you're so boring. What did your parents do - make you your special pancakes and let you stay up late?
This kid will turn out awesome.

I got to drive my dad's 68 Firebird convertible down our road when I was 11, and I was a solid C student...

People make such a big deal about it.
Like it's a crime or something.

When I was 13 or 14ish, I used to drive our Caravan around a parking lot where my mom worked. It had the 3.3 V6, and was surprisingly quick. But I drove it REALLY quickly for a parking lot (30-45mph), considering there was a number of parked, expensive German Sport Sedans.
It was a cool parking lot too, there was a second one that was connected to it with a chicane. After work, the second parking lot was always completely free of cars, with hardly any lights to get in the way. Plus, that was all down hill until a dip 3/4 of the way across where it leveled out, then along side of the building there was a long strip followed by a 90 degree turn, followed by another straight, followed by another 90 degree turn that led you back to the 2nd lot, but you had to turn tighter, because the road was narrower. The First lot had a lot of lamps and curbs to avoid, and it really made you feel like a bad ass.
Sorry for rambling, but I was having fun remembering that.

bad judgment but not terrible.

It's not unbelievable that an 11-year-old girl could drive, even well, though. She was just too short.

Big whoop. I've been driving since I was 11. Granted that was in a rural area, but that didn't make it any more legal or me any worse of a driver.

The daughter is probably a better driver than the mom!

I used to steal my moms car at 13 late at night. I learned how to drive by myself. It was pretty exciting, but I was horrible at first. That's why I went out at night, so that I wouldn't get caught.

Big news for me, she could've crashed into *my* car! :P

The poor little girl just wanted to drive.
Can't wait for 2020 when we get to see her overtake Danica Patrick Jr on the corkscrew at Laguna.

Neat PC (Police Cruiser).
What is it?
How fast can it get from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 kmph)?
How many MPGs?
Since Ford is dropping the Panther program, I guess the guys in blue will have to start shopping around. Doesn't look like there will be a next generation RWD Charger either.

That is an last-gen Skoda Octavia.
It is built about the Volkswagen Golf Mark4 Platform and has comparable Performance and Fuel Economy but you cannot get it with the V6 from the R32.
The biggest Engine you can get in the current one ist the 200bhp 2.0 TFSI with double Clutch Gearbox which does 0-62 in 7,3 and combined 37 MPG

Skoda Octavia - an oldish Passat, basically. Decently fast for a non-performance car, and an economic 1.9l diesel that still has a load of torque.
Standard issue here (here being Israel - where this picture and story are from) for taxi-drivers, police, and driving instructors. I'll always remember the diesel Octavia I was taught to drive.

I wouldn't imagine that ancient VW Group 1.9 TDI engine being too quick. It is however, like you said, a clear favorite of local taxi drivers, police forces and driving instructors. That engine is so simple it never breaks down - I can't count the number of Skoda/Seat taxis I've seen here with more than 300,000KM on the odometer...
Nice to meet yet another Israeli on here too ;)

Quick enough for a guy who grew up with a Fiat Uno. :P
Gets you up the highway on-ramps easily enough - what more do the cops need?
