Coloring inside the Lines: Nissan 370Z Roadster

With Nissan anticipated to launch the convertible version of its 2010 370Z in a few months' time at the New York Auto Show, a batch of outline drawings of the new roadster managed to walk out of the EU patent office last week. But revealing as those blueprints are, they still require some degree of imagination. Fortunately, the guys over at GlobalMotors.net have precluded the need for imagination by coloring inside the lines for us and providing a batch of renderings that give us a preview of what the 370Z Roadster will look like when it hits the roads later this year. Follow the link to check 'em out, with our thanks to Andrus for the tip.

No thank you.
The 350Z is still much more "elegant" than this, even though that isn't the right word to describe the Z.

My eyes! My eyes!
No, I had to gouge them out! Someone showed me the ugliest car ever!

YIKES.
I think Nissan is doing us a favour by not coming to Auto Shows.

No they're not, because we can't point and laugh at them if they're not here.

Those renderings makes the whole rear end of the car look like.... well, like ass.

At least it's not a flat ass anymore, but curvy and voluptuous.

I don't think it looks bad. I think it looks better than the outgoing model, with hints of Z3 and Z4 in the flanks.

I like it.
Besides, it's hard to tell what it will actually end up looking like when one of the three pictures shows different lines - the rear 3/4 view has a relatively straight line from the door to the rear deck, but the side and "road" views show it arching up quite severely.
If you don't like it, wait for the real thing. Unless you don't like the 370Z hardtop either, in which case you should stop complaining about the roadster because really, what do you expect? It's the same car!

I hate convertibles. They are cars for women.
Real men drive cars with roofs which are lighter, faster, stiffer.

Cars with roofs like a Formula 1 car?

Real men don't worry about what other people think about their ride.
Except for the girl in the passenger seat. She gets a vote.

The side profile looks 10X better than the 350Z Vert. The rear isn't 20 feet long and flat anymore.

Roadandtrack.com has a "photo-like" illustation of the car from Priddy and it looks quite a bit different from this, especially in the rear.

If you zoom it in a little more the car actually doesn't look too bad.

Yeah, I kept zooming in until my screen was filled with just the driver's side door. Looks great now.

A roadster is a small, lighweight sports car like the Miata.....the Z is relatively heavy GT car. "Roadster" is not appropriate for this application.

I like it more than the 350z convertible, the lines look much more natural and not like they just chopped the roof off the coupe.
Anyone else see the resemblance to the solstice in those gray renderings?
