Detroit restaurant offers cheaper eats for domestic owners

We'll have to make sure to rent a Mopar when we're in Detroit for the North American International Auto Show next week. Tribute Restaurant in nearby Farmington Hills is running a special promotion to honor folks who buy American. Food is half off for anyone driving a Chrysler product or who works for Chrysler the week of the show, January 11-17. But don't think the folks at The Tribute are just fans of the Pentastar.
The promotion kicked off on January 4, with Ford being the honored marque through January 10, while GM owners will get their discount during the week of January 18-24. The final week of the month (Jan. 25-31), everybody can get in on the special deal. All American cars will be featured that week and the discount will even be extended to automotive suppliers and dealers. The discounts apply to just the food portion of your bill at dinner or Sunday brunch and reservations are recommended.

Foreigner: American (UAW)???
What about the Mazda plant (in Flatrock MI?)... it uses UAW workers. There are a few Toyota plants that are UAW as well.

My old neon was made in Mexico. So is it American or Mexican?

It's a Chicano.

No Rob... Neons were ALL made in Belvedere (sp?) IL,
PT Crusiers (made from many of the same Neon parts) were made in Mexico. Chrysler would have the PTs in Belvedere too... but some bean-counter cut so many corners... the plant couldn't be adapted to an additional model line.
Mazda FTW! 7:09PM (1/05/2009)
Yeah this is racist! Because the Japanese would never reduce themselves to becoming a protectionist economy where they only buy Japanese badged/made products and won't even allow in products from countries. Goodness. Never! Only America can be xenophobic! Heck, even Europeans such as Jeremy Clarkson would never pick on American built cars simply because of where they are from irrespective of actual fact.

How about my MINI with a half of a Chrysler engine made in Brazil? Or my wife's Mazda built off of a Ford?

And my Eclipse was made by UAW auto workers in Illinois, so what it is still a Japanese car.
Enough, please. All these internet geniuses who just discovered that the automotive industry was a global entity have to keep "reminding" the rest of us of it over and over again each time this comes up.

If I ever go there, which is unlikely, I tend not to patronize businesses that pull bullcrap ploys...
But I'll just bring my 2008 W2.
I paid taxes, Taxes have been given to a private company, which is certainly not appropriate for government to do.
So I've given money to the big 3, and against my will, since they don't build a car to compete with the one I bought, which was assembled a few miles away in Indiana.
So Tribute restaurant can take a bite of 'shut the hell up, and cook the food.'

Why are so many people upset about this? Is it any different than
giving a discount to someone for being over 55? Or a free dinner for
someones birthday? Next time a 12 year old gets a free birthday cake I will demand the same thing!
Nobody is forcing people to eat there. If you don't like it then go someplace else and the problem is solved. The way so many import owners talk/act on this site you would think they could afford a couple extra bucks since only poor, uneducated people buy domestic cars. Add that to how much money they save versus those gas hog Chevy's and Ford's the poor people have to drive and BINGO!
BoxerFanatic,
How much of the money you have you given to Ford will show up on your W2?

Why is this stupid? Because nobody is going to go out and purchase an american vehicle to get $5 off their meal that night. Therefore, it's not going to stimulate anything, and is just a cry for attention to attract more import haters.

Actually, believe it or not, the restaurant is probably doing this to get more business. I really don't think their intention is for their customers to go buy a car made by one of the Big 3 and then go grab dinner.
ambientFLIER 6:30PM (1/06/2009)
That's my whole point. They are using the hot issue of patriotism to try and make more money.

If you don't like the deal just don't go there. Nobody is forced to go there.

I don't know if it is by solidarity with Detroit, but I was surprised today with the following:
I just stop by to a local BigOTires http://www.bigotires.com for a quote:
The new 2009 price for alignment is:
- European car: $100
- other cars; $80
No explanation
Last week (last year) I got a quote of: $80 (car up to 18” wheels)
- I am not sure if this means 18” include or below 18” ?
Note: I don’t own a Mercedes, or any luxurious car, just a 20 years old VW Golf

Note: (see previous entry)
- My car was built in the US VW plant, in Westmoreland County.
Does that make my car considered as a US built car, not European car?
