Detroit Preview: Fisker Sunset concept coming to Motown

In addition to the debut of the production version of the Karma luxury plug-in hybrid, Fisker Automotive will also be unveiling a new concept at the Detroit Auto Show next month: the Fisker Sunset. We don't have much beyond the teaser shot above, but we do know that Fisker Automotive CEO and namesake Henrik Fisker will announce details about the Sunset at the company's press conference in Cobo Hall on January 12. Besides the green Karma, Fisker is perhaps best known for their coachbuilt SLs and BMWs, but Henrik Fisker is also one of the most influential designers in the last decade, with most of the current Aston Martin lineup and the late, great BMW Z8 attributed to his pen. We can't wait to see what this wunderkind is up to now.
UPDATE: AutoblogGreen has more on what's officially called the Fisker Karma S.

Fiskers are beautiful cars... except for the grills! God, those are awful! (My opinion)

Based on the name and the side shape, Looks like a convertible (coupe size) of the Karma!

the name probably means its the flagship, based on
"The only thing that is plain about the Fisker is its logo: officially, it represents the Californian sunset over the Pacific Ocean, bisected by two vertical stripes representing the designer’s pen and the modelmaker’s clay."

Clearly a convertible, look at the far side of the car- clear sailing past the seats...

It could be a B-pillar-less design, but the fact that they shot the photo with the door windows would suggest it is some type of drop top.

Looks to be a convertable version of the Karma.

Word...but I'm curious why he'd give it an entirely new name, if that's the case.

"Sunset" in Italian is Tramonto (aka Fisker Tramonto), so I think this will be a Concept of the next-gen Tramonto.
mmstowes 11:39PM (12/30/2008)
Thank you for explaining that. I'm presuming since the current Tramonto has a hard-top, this one will too. Should be interesting with the Karma's design language.

I can't wait to see this car, nice teaser. I hope it has a front-end unique from the Karma though, rather than being just an ungainly 2-door version a la Maserati.

So all of Saab's Hybrid Convertibles were just a myth....
If you mean first 'Production' Hybrid convertible, then we'll have to wait and see how this all turns out.
KAveh 10:40PM (12/30/2008)
Yeah, looks like a convertible, and the headrest look out of a Benz. You can see part of the front brake , and the brakes look beefy.

Maybe someone will finally get us out of this "ugly car mode" (aka, Nissan GTR, Bugatti Veyron, Audi R8, etc).
I think more designers should go back to beating panels or pushing clay around and spend less time in front of their computer monitors.

Audi R8 is ugly? Really?
Mobius_1 7:41AM (12/31/2008)
Jerry, seriously, if you think the R8 is ugly, you need to get out more onto the streets and pray and hope you see one. Even one in as discreet a colour as black makes me shudder to see it.
