The current economic turmoil has claimed another victim: the 2009 edition of the Michelin Challenge Bibendum. The event, which has been held more or less annually since 2000, was scheduled to take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil next April, but now won't happen until at least a year later. Michelin blames the delay on financial problems at several of its partners.

The Challenge is a rally meant to showcase and evaluate sustainable mobility technologies in a real world environment. the last edition held in Shanghai, China in late 2007 where a wide array of technologies were showcased including electric, hybrid, diesel, and hydrogen. A diesel-powered Audi A5 won the prototype portion of the event.
