VIDEO: Sneak Peak at 2010 Cadillac SRX

Click above to watch video after the jump
We're technically embargoed from telling you anything about the new 2010 SRX, but that hasn't stopped Cadillac from releasing a teaser video on YouTube of the new wreath and crest CUV sliding around in the snow. Set to replace the current SRX that didn't sell well despite being a perfectly competent machine, the new SRX will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show as the latest model to continue Cadillac's resurgence as a brand that actually matters in the marketplace. The new SRX promises to be much more appealing to the mainstream, especially if you like drifting on frozen lakes, and really, who doesn't? Check out the vid after the jump and let us know if you think the new SRX will do better than Cadillac's first attempt.

It is a badge engineered vue/equinox. A bit more engineering would help it look less like a Vue Delux
Still, it is a much more proportionate deign that the SRX which looked like a minivan trying to be an SUV.

@Sofa King Fast!, That is simply not true. Check your facts before posting.
This car is built on the Theta 2 platform which has more in common with the new Epsilon II architecture (Opel Insignia, Buick LaCrosse 2010) than the Theta architecture which is used for smaller CUV's like the Vue.

This is very dangerous waters, do you remember when GM used to sell poorly rebadged Chevys as Caddys?
This could be the first step in the very very wrong direction.
G-Meister 7:27PM (12/23/2008)
theta was the original VUE/Equinox/Torrent/XL7. The new VUE is not a std. theta platform. is it Theta2? I can't substantate this, but it's been long known that the new VUE will be the donor for the Caddy variant

The practice isn't exclusive to GM.
Nissan's Altima and Infiniti's G ?Honda's CRV and Acura's RDX?
As long as the rebadged vehicle offers more value what's the problem boys?

I know what you are saying, but you could have at least used vehicles that were remotely related.
The Altima and G37 share no platform that I'm aware. Most notably since one is RWD and the other is FWD. The 350(370)Z share a platform with the G's though, as well as the EX, FX, and M series.
The CR-V and RDX are closer, but Acura claims that the RDX is built on a unique platform.
FWIW, most(if not all) Lincolns are built on platforms used by a Ford vehicle. Most Lexus's are built off of Toyota platforms. Really, the only two major luxury brands I can think of that have their own unique architecture are BMW and M-B. But, even within those brands, they share platforms across model lines, CLS to E-Class, 1-Series to 3-Series, not to mention the SUV's built off of those platforms as well(X3, X5, X6, GLK etc)
Platform sharing(as some call rebadging) is a useful and cost-effective part of modern auto manufacturing. You get far more out of your research dollar that way.
What is bad though, is the way GM(and others) would literally take the same vehicle and slap a different badge onto it. That was quite prevalent in the 70, 80's and early 90's. What GM is doing today though I would not consider to be akin to that practice. Each vehicles for each brand has unique styling including interiors and may even have unique powertrains as well. What they are doing these days is much more closely aligned to what the rest of the industry does as well.

This SRX is as much Vue, as the Escalade is a Tahoe. So stop the BS.
Sean 11:39PM (12/23/2008)
It's Pilot / MDX, not CR-V / MDX.
It's not like GM are the only ones who do this: Infiniti G / M / EX / FX / Nissan 350/370z. (The GT-R uses the "premium" version of this platform); Toyota has the Camry / Solara / Highlander / Sienna / Lexus ES / RX
SITEiNK 12:10AM (12/24/2008)
it really looks like a Lincoln MKX.
Mr.Oak 8:36AM (12/24/2008)
You mean like the Murano / EX35 or the Camry / ES350 or the Tahoe / Escalade, or the Edge / MKX? All extremely successful examples of badge engineering done right.
The Cavalier \ Cimmaron era of 1984 is behind us, get over it.
The cavalier and cimmaron were poorly conceived, and even worse in execution.
Badge engineering with sufficient content differentiation and proper EXECUTION has been proven to be very lucrative for just about every car company on the planet.
The Solstice \ Sun is a classic example of badge engineering done wrong.
Badge engineered niche (low volume) vehicles with a small to moderate profit margins is not smart.
The Camaro \ Firebird made sense because they sold so many of them.
The Corvette \ XLR do not, but Cadillac needs a flagship. Hopefully the Cadillac design team will have more latitude with the next XLR.
GM also needs to kill either the Solstice or the Sun (I say the Sun since it sells less), and hand that excellent platform over to Cadillac to create a baby XLR. Most of the parts already exist in the CTS.
So, shut up already about badge engineering, it could be a good thing if done right.

ahh no , interior ,exterior , suspension, drivetrain powertrain packages make it different
and also @ montoym Gm still re-badges in the classic way, so how easily we forget Uplander/Ventura/Relay
Btw no one said anything about powertrain packages , i jut hope we see a so called green version before GM inevitably trys to put a LS3 into it. Standard Equipment should be the DI 3.6 and six speed auto gearbox, with some conservative differential gear ratios 3.42 or sumthing kinda high .With the inevitable AWD it should return some respectable MPG.
PJ 12:17PM (12/24/2008)
Phew... that is one ugly guppy. What happened? The previous-generation SRX was one of my favorite SUVs in that class, both to look at and to drive.
Saturn's VUE uses a platform with parts of both the old Theta platform and the Theta II under this new SRX. So they're only partial platform-mates. But given GM's badge-engineering baggage (and yes, they *are* the worst at it--try and tell me a Camry and RX 350 aren't more different than an Equinox and Torrent), you'd think they'd have been more careful to avoid giving the two identical proportions. At first glance, this new SRX looks like a VUE with an Escalade face tacked on, even if it isn't.

I'm with you on that.

I can see that too.

When I originally saw the sentra, I noticed a lot of lines that Cadillac uses, I almost thought they ripped the design from GM. Glad to see someone else sees it too

When I first saw it I thought it was yet another iteration of the Outlook/Enclave/Acadia/Traverse. Turns out its just the Equinox.
Yay Badge Engineering!
