Gaywheels.com picks Best Cars of 2008 from a different perspective
So what does the the new Mazda6, BMW 1-Series, VW Jetta TDI Sportwagen and Infiniti G37 have in common? They all appear on the Gaywheels.com second annual Best Cars of 2008 list. The site's three editors made their choices in each of six categories: Best New Car, Best Makeover, Best Date Car, Best Family Car, Best Club Car and Best Car for Me.Gaywheels founder Joe LaMuraglia tells us, "You can also argue that while the prevalence of families is on the rise, the majority of LGBT consumers are single or couples and don't have the same requirements as married couples with kids." LaMuraglia chose the 2009 Mazda6 as his Best New Car, arguing that the midsize is "bigger, badder and more beautiful" than the previous 6. His personal best car, however, is the TDI Sportwagen. Its combination of frugality and good looks earned the site's praise of "vehicular comfortable shoes."
Joe Tralongo, Gaywheels' Montana editor, chose the Nissan GT-R as his Best New Car and the Subaru WRX as his personal favorite. Josee Valcourt, the site's New York Editor, likes the Volkswagen CC overall but the seemingly contradictory 335i Convertible as his ride of choice.
What a coincidence. Gay car fans like some of the same cars that straight car fans do.

I didn't realize that cars have a sexual preference.

I didnt know that sexual preference had any ties to the type of car you like, or more importantly whether I gave a rat's behind.
how many were chosen because the mftr is 'gay friendly' as opposed to a good car.
That's like asking this crowd what's the best car-friendly sexual toy?
And PLEASE NO ANSWERS 8^>
Keep it in the garage fellas

Used to live in the Palm Springs area... gay magazines are littered w/ Subaru ads.
happy_penguin 5:07PM (12/22/2008)
So, foreign cars are gay.
Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Dang, I feel so lost and without an identity since there's no straightwheels.com (there is but it's a tire fixing site). I mean, how am I supposed to make purchasing decisions without the guiding hand of a site supposedly representing my sexual orientation?
After all, I think about having monogamous sex with a woman every time I'm about to purchase a car.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a website where you can practice the art of sarcasm in private before you attempt it on the web. But I think I'll create one just for you!
Aki 5:38PM (12/22/2008)
I'm guessing I'm supposed to look for the funny in that response, but found none.
Frank 5:56PM (12/22/2008)
you're an idiot ... and judging by your comments probably gay too.
Aki 5:59PM (12/22/2008)
An idiot, yes. Silly me for thinking sexual orientation has nothing to do with cars.
Colin B. 5:29PM (12/22/2008)
They have plenty of niche sites for different types of car shoppers. I think having a gay oriented car site makes a lot of sense.

"Best Club Car: Cadillac CTS-V
Cadillac’s V-Series treatment is to the stunning CTS what Human Growth Hormone is to Major League Baseball. With 556-horsepower and standard all-wheel drive, you might want to bypass the club and head straight for Mulholland Drive."
AWD? Really?

can nothing be taken as a lighthearted end-of-the-year wrap up like every other website/magazine does? does every reference to being gay here have to be met with 8th grade level giggles and trite homophobic jokes? yes, i am gay. yes, i have loved cars for my entire life. yes, i have owned domestics and imports, new and classic.
get over it autoblog readers. we ARE just like everyone else, and THAT is the point of the article.

If you are just like everybody else, then why would you need a separate top 10 list?
Nothing homophobic about questioning the need to tie sexual preference to cars.

They decided to start a magazine. In order to differentiate themselves, they found a new niche market. I don't have a problem with that.

There certainly are "gay cars" in the sense that gay men and lesbians tend to prefer certain brands and types of cars over others, and that these choices are often very different from those made by straight men and women. Here's a handy list for your reference:
Acura - very gay
MINI - ultra gay
Golf convertible/Miata - coronal mass ejection gay
Jeep or pickup truck - leather gay
Subaru - Great for a drive through the rubyfruit jungle on your way to the LPGA tournament or Indigo Girls concert.

I'm sorry, but as an astrophysicist, you just made my night with "coronal mass ejection gay."
I've never understood the "Lesbaru" phenomenon, but it definitely exists. As a straight man who drives a Subaru, I can only say "let's load up the dogs and hit the trails, my lesbian brethren!"

I knew the 1-series was gay but the mazda6 comes as a little of a suprise
