2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 cometh, order guide leaked online

At the 2010 Ford Mustang debut in Santa Monica, Mark Fields told us that the Blue Oval would reveal "another chapter in the Mustang story" at the Detroit Auto Show next month. If the camouflaged Shelbys running around Motown were anything to go by, the "next chapter" would come in the form of the new GT500. While Ford has yet to officially announce the car or when it will make its debut, a leaked order guide posted on MustangBlog.com confirms that the car will be produced as a 2010 model and reveals new details about the updated Shelby.
In addition to the new-for-2010 sheetmetal, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 benefits from a set of 19-inch wheels (the convertible gets new 18-inchers) and comes equipped with a new aluminum hood with a power dome and a single functional heat extractor. The supercharged 5.4L V8 remains, and although specific power output is not listed, the new model will offer "increased performance." A 3.55 axle ratio is now standard, and the suspension has been tuned by SVT. Inside, an optional Electronics package provides a voice-activated nav system and dual climate control. The leather seats will feature a stripe that color coordinates with the exterior stripes as well as Alcantera accents. New exterior colors will correspond with the standard 2010 Mustang and include Grabber Blue, Kona Blue, Sterling Grey, and more.

The only thing the GT500 needs is to lose about 500 pounds. This is their chance to fix the shortcomings of the current GT500, much as they did with the standard Mustang for '10, and I certainly hope Ford takes advantage of it.

That I can agree with. I can deal with the LRA (I have driven several GTs and have had a ride in a GT500...it's not all that bad) but the GT500 needs to be at least 3700lbs. If Ford would just ditch that slab of iron under the hood, that would help a lot.
Other than that, I love the GT500. It's a beast of a car.

Surprise... Mustangz post... OMGZ like it still has the solid rear axelz? Ughhh... so ancient. Like my Civic Si has a ttlly more modern suspension set up than this. Oh an totally bad timing for this, we need green carz!! Ford is going under, who will buy this. OMG an Audi A3 will smoke this and everything else....

For a car in that price it should come with all the optionals, like HID lamps, climate control and such.
Anyway, this is going to look really awesome.

just to let you know ...HID lamps have been an option for over a year now ...also ...it says it has dual climate control ....

Well, 'increased performance' is something I always love to hear. Ford's lineup is looking fairly strong toward the 2010 model year with options like the new Mustang contrasted against selections like the Fusion hybrid. If they can weather the economy and people loosen up on their wallets a little to take advantage of prime buying time they should do fine.

considering it will have to compete with some run of the mill base level camaros and challengers, I'd hope it has "increased" performance.
Ford should concentrate on increased performance in the V6 and GT mustangs.

inteller...I have a feeling the GT500 won't have a problem wasting the Camaro in straightline performance. When it gets to some curves? That's another story. And it's already proven to be a better vehicle than the Challenger SRT-8 (heck. the Bullitt almost beat it in a comparo).
But I would definitely love to see a comparison between the SS, SRT-8 and this beast.

Quick question, does the 3.55 axle ratio now standard hurt or improve fuel economy? Just asking because i don't know very much about gear ratios.

The lower the axle ratio the higher the fuel efficiency. Conversely the higher the axle ratio the quicker the acceleration.

What's with the jacked up ride height on American sportscars? Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, you could fit a medium sized dog into those wheelwells.

What Camaro or Challenger will compete with the 2010 GT500? It will have at least 115 more horsepower than any Camaro or Challenger and weigh a couple of hundred pounds less.
The Camaro SS makes 422 horses and the Challenger SRT-8 makes 425. The 2010 GT500 will produce at least 540. (The 2008-2009 Shelby GT500KR is rated at 540 but makes 590.)

exactly ..people dont realize that ...this car comes in so many flavors ...for all to like ...and people complain about all of the "special editions" for one thats just because the car has that much range ...from 300 hp to 725 with the super snake ...also the "special editions" from ford is just R&D for the next update (ie. the Bullitt is now the standard GT) which i think your right on with the next GT500 having at least 540 ...lets hope it did shed some pounds ....
also ..whats your take on the last picture from the rear? ...does that look like IRS to you? it does to me ...and if it is IRS ...i hope all these mustang haters choke on their own foot ...now what will they complain about?
