Click the image above to view the gassed 'Vette take on the Nissan GT-R after the jump

The Garage 419 team is anything but conventional, so when they say they're going to race a Nissan GT-R against a $500 competitor, you know it's going to be entertaining. Host Matt Farah had the easy task of rolling to the strip in the Godzilla of street racers, with 478 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and launch control at his beck and call. Editor Gene Sanchez had the tougher task of obtaining a $500 car to challenge his co-worker. Sanchez had a couple tricks up his sleeve, though, as he rented a $200-per-day LS3 Corvette from the Hertz Fun Collection and added a bargain-basement $300 nitrous system. Unfortunately, the 'Vette was burdened with lousy run-flat tires and a six-speed slush box, but at least the yellow underdog had the crowd on its side. Does a juiced up Corvette have a chance in Hell of besting a bone-stock GT-R on a one-eighth mile drag strip? The only way to find out is by hitting the jump to see the race for yourself.

"Hey lets see how many reps these heavy weight lifters can do!!!!"

      Stupid...

A stock evo 8 would have beat the vette in the 1/8 mile. wooooooo that freeway merging speed is intense!

That's like pitting a slightly moded Cobalt SS Turbo against a Mustang GT. They might have similar power ratings, but they have completely different ways of putting that power to the ground.

      In other words: Stupid Comparison.

      Drama. Nothing more.

just because you take the damage waiver it does not protect against everything. the damage waiver only protects you for on road use. with a drag strip considered off road use that technically voided the contract. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that the loss control department of Hertz goes after garage 419. I work for another rental car company and I know my company would fully pursue. at least they hid the license plate so that will probably save them in the end.

!/8 th mile? Wow! I'll just file this in with girls that make comments like..." I don't usually do this".... Fargin' Horse-biscuits!

      That was pointless.

I can vouch for the runflat tires being a serious obstacle to beating a GTR.

I raced a GTR on Wednesday night....his best time of the night was 11.8 @ 117.......my best was 12.2 @ 119.........I need drag radials!!!!!

Also, listening to the video...his g419's GTR trapped at 93 mph in the 1/8th........the GTR I raced trapped at 95 in the 1/8 and my best was 93. Launch has everything to do with it.

The outcome could have been different with a better driver.

It would make for a good drinking game though. Take a shot everytime the bearded guy says "Launch Control"

Also, I wonder what Hertz's lawyers had to say about this...
