eBay Find of the Day: IMSA Löwenbräu 911 tribute car

Today's eBay Find of the Day is a special 1984 Porsche 911 RS 3.2 Tribute Car. What makes it special is its paintjob. Porsche fans will no doubt recognize the Löwenbräu livery on this 911. Löwenbräu was one of the first sponsors of Porsche's then-new 962 endurance racer when it entered IMSA GT racing back in 1984. The 962 was launched with driver Al Holbert, co-drivers Derek Bell, Chip Robinson, and Al Unser Jr., and sponsor Löwenbräu. "The Löwenbräu Car" became the most successful IMSA GTP racer in the series' history.
The actual vehicle up for bid is a "very clean" 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera with 140,000 miles on the clock, but only 40K since a complete engine rebuild. The car was completely stripped and repainted in factory Grand Prix White. It also received a new RS style interior and upgrades to the gearbox and suspension. Racing bodywork and additional touches were added to make it look like a period racer, although the car is set up for the street. Basically it's a chance to channel your inner Holbert on the road. The seller has it at a Buy It Now price of $49,990.

Am I missing the actual eBay link here somewhere? Or is there just not one there?

Kind of looks like they just stuck the Lowenbrau decals on Rothmans sponsored car.
Love the car though..... less the duck tail.... Turbo whale tail FTW.

A whale tail wouldn't make it a Löwenbräu tribute would it?

@ tuna
Good point! lol
I'll go hide in the corner now.

Why? The original was a 962, the only thing this one has in common is the paintshop anyway...

BTW the early Turbos had whale tails, but the Turbo tail is the Tea Tray ;-)

I don't see the eBay link either, but it's not hard to look it up on the auction site?
This car was on Bringatrailer.com and have shown up at Cars & Coffee in Irvine. It's a nice tribute, but I think the fact that it's trying to look like a race car will hurt its chances of being sold. As much as I think it's neat, I can't see myself driving it on the streets. If it was all white, I'd be all over it.

I agree. It looks nice but it's a little "loud" for regular street driving yet it's not a real race car. They also don't mention any real performance upgrades so it's not any faster than a regular 1984 Carrera with 225 HP. They also mention a 915 gearbox. I thought Carrera's had G50's - which were more stable. It's a beautiful car nonetheless. I wouldn't buy it though.
For $49k you can get a nice original / restored 911 Carrera Coupe AND Cabriolet instead.
