Hennessey offers 600 hp tuning package for Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R V Spec will allegedly be packing 520 horses when it arrives some time next year. That still won't be enough for a lot of people (especially folks who want to win seriously competitive drag races), so Hennessey is offering GT-R upgrades that beef Godzilla up to 600 hp. The seven mods in the kit don't do anything crazy to the car -- items like stainless steel turbo downpipes and a wastegate actuator upgrade -- they simply combine to add 120 hp to the corral already on hand. As far as we're concerned, we'd take that over a 520 hp V Spec any day... we can rip out the rear seats ourselves.

After everything that has gone on with John Hennesy why do you guys continually give him "free" advertising, unless of course you are getting paid...

I can't figure that out either.

Giving a new GT-R to Henny to pick over. That's the funniest thing on autoblog all week.

Oh, your transmission, It'll be back from the "shop" soon. The engine, eh that's out for work. Yes the wheels are being painted as we speak.

Seriously, why do we hear about this guy but not the respectable tuners. Someone who specializes in Vipers but has been ban by the Viper Club of America probably needs to be looked at closer.
As a GT-R owner I have kept up with tuner news and I remember MCR having trouble with the tranny holding at 600bhp some time ago. I have my doubts that Hennessey has done anything to strengthen the tranny.

"Someone who specializes in Vipers but has been ban by the Viper Club of America probably needs to be looked at closer."
How'd that story go again? A link would suffice, thanks.

same thought. Hand grenades are very powerful too.

For some reason the thought of Hennessey blowing a tranny brings a smile to my face....

when you have tuner's like Mine's, Amuse and HKS, why does an american company like Henessey even get mentioned?

I Have no issue that you beat on Hennessey because of his record, but saying that because his outfit is American disqualifies them, makes you a jackass.
Catapult 7:49PM (12/15/2008)
Actually I read over on Nagtroc something Hennessey said about the GT-R, "Respectable times but still a jap car and like all of them they have their limits. Still, very good times." He hates on the GT-R because it is Japanese.
GT-R owners respect American tuners like Cobb Tuning and Animal House Racing, not this guy so much.
To everyone who doesn't know about Hennessey's shady business dealings, Google "Hennessey Performance Complaints."

mr oak
I wrote a long response to your statement, but it got lost when i closed the window
in a nutshell : it's not that I inherently dislike anything american - it's that it doesn't really make sense for a firm like henessey to work with the GTR. japanese car tuning is very different from american car tuning - this type of thing is best left to jdm companies. to my knowledge, there aren't any american companies able to compete on the same level as the companies I mentioned earlier. I remember seeing an amuse r35 even before the gtr was officially released! these guys operate on a higher level than you might think.
remember: there's a lot more to tuning than just performance - if you can grasp that, then you would see why henessey should stick to vipers

@ IK
Yeah.... all those immaculately applied stickers and subwoofers give u street cred!!!
Dude, tuning is about performance!!! And to my best knowledge a 1400bhp Viper is around 6s in the 1/4 and the ACR is the current 'Ring king (ZR1 a strong second)... Live in your little rice-bubble all you want, but dont get on American cars because you're hating.

Someone actually got the name right on the V-Spec.

As much as I hate them calling it a "Spec V" that is what they are going with. Spec V to me is a Sentra. Nissan Japan, wouldn't let NNA use Vspec on the Sentra, so the US ran with Spec V. Now there are a few excuses, but it does seem that Spec V will be what they call it in Japan.

As far as the GT-R transmission is concerned. Is 10.80@126 good enough ? http://www.2009gtr.com/2008/12/1080126-mph-151-60-foot-r35-gt-r.html
As far as Hennessey is concerned. No mention of ECU, fuel management, or injector upgrades for the "700 hp" package. I will believe that when I see it.
Jason 1:52PM (12/16/2008)
Well, I will also say that I need to "see it to believe it" on the Spec-V name. If Nissan changes the name, it would be a stupid move.
Mobius_1 7:33PM (12/15/2008)
Hmmm not bad...
Needs more power though. :P
