Top 10 Least Stolen Vehicles in 2008

Click above to start the list of Top Ten Least Stolen Vehicles in 2008
Yesterday we showed you the Top Ten Most Stolen Vehicles in 2008 based on thefts per number of insured models. While many of you pointed out that these were, in fact, not the most stolen vehicles overall, most of you agreed that they weren't worth risking time in the clink over, either. Even the most stolen vehicles overall like the Honda Civic, Accord and Toyota Camry don't really seem worth the trouble unless you run a chop-shop. So what can you do to keep your daily commuter parked safe and sound in the driveway? Perhaps drive one of these.
Again using new data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Highway Loss Data Institute, we've assembled a new list of the Top Ten Least Stolen Vehicles in 2008. Not all of them are undesirable, some just have very good protective devices. Others are just so popular that their owners don't let them out of their sight. We make no promises about whether or not your particular car will be stolen, but we do know that the IIHS says these vehicles generate the fewest insurance-claim reports related to theft. As before, the figures are reported in number of claims filed for every 1,000 vehicles insured each year, and this most recent report covers vehicles made and sold between 2005 and 2007. So follow the banner to find out what the least stolen cars of 2008 are.

maybe I would check to see if my vehicle is safe, if the whole article didn't look like a giant banner ad. I'm liking a lot of the new format, but it's a little flashy in some unwanted places.

Agreed. But if I wanted to check if my vehicle is safe I'd go take a look at it.

Personally I am not a fan of the new style, and I think the little icon next to the web address in the browser looks a little too much like LeftLane news' icon.
Anyway, new Volkswagen Bug, big surprise it's on this list. That's like stealing herpes.

the title should be the top ten least likely to be stolen because if you go off actual numbers not per blank amount of cars the cars would be a different story.

A few of these are going out of production soon (if not already).
Also, why are the U-bodies on the list twice?
I'm surprised at the Prius, though.

poor people's cars are more likely to be stolen probably because of being parked in the neighborhoods with heighter level of crime.
no wonder, Mercedes E Class, is the least stolen vehicle. very rarely parked on streets at all

Don't you just need to know someone at a Merc dealer who can get the laser cut keys from Germany? :)

so what happened to their S class, CLK class or M class, or their buyers?

You are absolutely right. That is why the Escalade ESV is the most stolen car..... (rolls eyes)

I agree that all these cars are ugly, with two exceptions
1. Merc E Class- Gotta love that classic styling
2. Volvo V70R(as is pictured): I dont know if they have a break down of V70's in general, I would be very surprised, however, the V70R is probably the ultimate sleeper of all time. Twin Turbo 300 HP wagon... that thing goes STUPID FAST for a Volvo... and I would take that over 2/3rds of the cars on the most stolen list!!!

Half of the cars: so unattractive, even theives don't want them.

Very true.

Half? How about every one except the Benz. All the others are hideous crap and that's why even thieves don't want them.*
*Cynical response to some of the asshats in the 10 most stolen vehicles discussion, but they really are mostly ugly. :)

"Claim frequency: 0.8 (per 1,000 for each insured vehicle year) Average loss payment per claim: $7,759 Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Vestibulum suscipit hendrerit arcu. Nulla dictum. Vestibulum ante ipsum primis in faucibus orci luctus et ultrices posuere cubilia Curae; Praesent pellentesque elit eget tortor. Curabitur id ante in libero pharetra."
I understand the first sentence, but from there on I am lost.

The Stig can translate for you.

It's Latin, but worse, it's Latin gibberish, so no translating will help. It's used as a text block place-holder, if I'm not mistaken.

The ugly and horrid GM minivans and that awful Buick SUV. No wonder they need a bailout building that crap. The Volvo and FreeStyle/Taurus X are on the same platform and appeal to the same LLBean demographic as the Forester. If a pro thief wants a car, just get a flatbed and go. They are going to get it.

Apparently the VW is an undesirable horrid crapmobile and nobody wants that horrid ugly ass Subaru either.
