2009 Dodge Ram earns 5 stars for crash safety

The 2009 Dodge Ram was all aces in the latest round of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration crash testing, with the big D-wagon achieving five stars in both driver and passenger front crash ratings. The Dodge Ram follows the 2009 F-150 and Chevy Silverado as the only pickup trucks to score five stars for both the driver and passenger in a front end crash.
NHTSA determines crash-worthiness by driving cars and trucks into an immovable wall at 35 mph. A five star rating means that there's a 10% or less chance of serious injury. Our favorite part of any new crash test score is the accompanying video footage, and you can view Ram vs. Wall after the jump. The wall wins, but the Ram puts up a five-star fight.

Nice to know if you Ram a wall at 35 mph, you'll probably be fine. ;-)

If only the same could be said for Cerbyler.
Okay sorry I couldn't resist.
The new Ram is a great truck. Unfortunately the way things are going it is going to be Nissan who benefits from all that hard work.

Wonderful. This RAM looks to be a real winner, F150 is new but this RAM just generates so many positive news stories one has to wonder if its the best Truck in USA.
Looks great, tons of storage, Ram Box, interior is amazing from what i have seen, driving and handling are good (from what i read)

"The Dodge Ram follows the 2009 F-150 and Chevy Silverado as the only pickup trucks to score five stars for both the driver and passenger in a front end crash. "
As the only *full-size* pickups, perhaps. The Colorado/Canyon, Dakota/Raider, Ridgeline, and Tacoma also earned five stars.

When you're dealing with that much metal, there really is NO excuse for not nailing a Gov't standard test. The fact that the Tundra did't score 5 stars all around, despite all the safety standards (curtains, VDC) is a disappointment. Provided the company sticks around, a really good 6speed is all that's missing now.

The frontal crash test simulates a head-on collision with a vehicle of the same weight. So the heavier a vehicle is, the more challenging its frontal crash test. It's the economy cars that have no excuses for mediocre scores, as they're only colliding with a simulated 2500-lb car instead of a 4500-lb truck.

Its a fixed barrier test- look at the vid. Off-set is a vehicle to vehicle test. The big part in a big vehicle, rather than a small one, its much easier to manage the occupants w/o having them contact the IP or the window frame.

The Honda Ridgeline Pickup truck gets a five star crash test rating for driver and front passenger as well.

I'm doing some work with Dodge and these trucks can definitely withstand a lot- just take a look at the online series, Ram Challenge, used to show what they're capable of- http://ramchallenge.yahoo.com/index.html?pid=CWebPage&adid=RamChallengeMicrosite
