Galpin Ford selling 2008 Mustang GT for $18,995

One positive side effect of the auto industry experiencing such a low sales volume is the incredible deals you can find on a new car. Manufacturers have already pulled out the old tried and true incentives of employee pricing and 0% financing, but we've never seen a deal like this before. Galpin Ford, which bills itself as the #1 volume Ford dealer in the world, is offering the 2008 Ford Mustang GT for the bargain bin price of $18,995. The dealership says it has come across 40 models of America's favorite muscle car from a "performance fleet" and is offering them at nearly 1/3 off on a first come, first serve basis. We don't know exactly what "performance fleet" means, so be sure to check the odometer and ask what these Mustangs experienced in a prior life before buying. Their original $28,160 MSRPs have been knocked down by Ford's own employee pricing deal, an additional $2,500 rebate and Galpin's own discount of $3,794. If you're interested, you better act quick as there's sure to be big demand for such low priced Detroit iron while gas is still below $2/gallon.

300 hp for under $20k. Now THAT's a deal. Although I don't care for the mustang, I have to admit, if I was a teenager, I would definately be ditching the Civic for one of those babies.

If you were a teenager, it's unlikely you'd have $19K sitting around that you could spend on a Mustang. Particularly if you had college in your plans.

If detroit could find a way of making a 300hp profitable for under $20k, even a teeny-tiny profit, they would hit it out of the park.

I saw this on Slickdeals the other day and thought about calling to buy one but I am happy with my Mach 1 + the woman said no.

You considered getting a new GT over a Mach 1?
Apparently we have differing opinions of what makes a good car...

Press cars?
I'm surprised that Ford would honor rebates and employee pricing on cars that are not freah off the factory floor. Even if this "performance fleet" was Ford's own.

That was my thought too... but if they have never been titled as they were still property of FoMoCo who knows...

One thing Ford has going is the way Mustang looks. This car will sell simply based on looks.

I rarely find myself rushing to defend the D3, but that simply isn't true. The Mustang GT is loads of fun to drive. Besides the retro interior ambiance, you can't not have fun revving that strong and velvety-smooth V8 (which makes its own Bullitt soundtrack) and shifting the surprisingly positive 5-speed manual. The chassis has a heavy, "vintage" feel, but it isn't without entertainment value, either.
Sure, it'd be better with IRS and a decent DOHC V6 as the base engine, but the S197 is more than a skin-deep sort of car.

WOW! This would leave some extra $$ for a supercharger and other sweet mods. I wonder if the same sweet deal(s) apply to the GT convert.

Rock-bottom pricing with a descent set of equipment listed? Too good to be true, but they are basically used and why not get rid of them. And since the price is so low, maybe a few buyer will just roll it over to the Galpin shop for some aftermarket customizations....that's the real reason for the cheap pricing, right?

I was told that the GTs were bought from Saleen's online auction that was held a month or two ago getting rid of a bunch of cars they weren't going to "Saleenify"...
And they were listed for around 18K at that time so Galpin is probably just unloading them now that Mustang sales are through the floor...

don't look at low sales per say.. makes a good headline I guess but...

these should have been bought at an auction follow that link.. Funny how they are ALL blue or white - the ones for sale their for that price.

I'm curious if by performance fleet they mean cars meant for rental car fleets. typically the fleet cars my company get are made with cheaper plastic and just seem really cheap in build quality. I was in a V6 mustang that was so cheap on the inside I though the automatic shifter was going to break off.

That's been one of the Mustang's problems: You get the same interior in a $50K Shelby (with some extra leather here and there) that you do in the low-rent V6 that Enterprise rents.
Supposedly they've upgraded things in the '10 version.

It feels cheap because it is...the American automakers don't know their a$$ from first base, they try and trim a few cents off and the result are cars that no one wants, which is why the Big 3 are in the spot they're in...let 'em go bankrupt.
jv2k 8:21PM (12/08/2008)
Yea because the mustang is a car that no one wants.

My friend's been looking to buy a Mustang. He'll surely be interested in this information.
