Spy Shots: 2010 Shelby GT500 gets Jalop'd

Why wait for the Detroit Auto Show to see the 2010 Shelby GT500 when Ford's driving the thing around Detroit essentially undisguised? Jalopnik's Ben Wojdyla had the convertible version roll right up next to him at a stoplight in Royal Oak, which gave him the opening he needed to grab a bunch of good shots of the forthcoming snake. So, what's new? Well, obviously, the general 2010 Mustang cues all carry over to the range-topper, which also gets a good-looking set of alloys, huge grille openings up front, a heat extractor hood, and all the requisite badging. Ben says the GT500's gutsy exhaust note blended with a hint blower whine sounds as good as it did before. We're digging the black paint with Grabber Blue stripes, too. Ford drives the new GT500 onstage at Cobo in just over a month from now, and we'll be there, as usual. In the meantime, head over to Jalopnik for a full gallery showing the 2010 GT500 from a number of angles.

Would anyone notice this car if it *didn't* have camo? Looks like they wanted some free pub.

Ha, I think you nailed it. Unless it's really important to test this Mustang in stop-and-go city driving, with a slightly wet/slushy road. Also, the huge blue stripes. It's always important to test the new stripes.
It's cute the way we get all excited about these neverending "spy" shots.

I think the biggest change from the 05-09 Mustang and this one is that they changed the side that the cobra is on the grille.

Or they have just been using this test mule for months on end and never removed the camo.
Blah. Blah. Blah.

Nope...the last great cobra was the '01 model, with irs and no iron boat anchor in the front.

Oh god here come the endless mustang varieties. 2009 is going to be a long year with all the freaking sticker packages and new wheels available for this stupid car.

Yawn.....................
Will this one handle poorly, be too heavy, and still use ox cart suspension like the current one?

Matt, a lot of those who b1tche and moan about a solid axle rear suspension wouldn't even feel the difference in driving it if they weren't previously told.
Let it go. It reduces weight and cost. Solid axle is fine.
Stuka 1:43PM (12/07/2008)
The Mustang is several hundred pounds lighter than the Camaro, and *WAY* lighter than the Challenger. And as for the solid axle, its the best form of suspension to have for drag racing, period.
And as for road racing this year: "Joe Foster and Scott Maxwell won the Grand-Am KONI Challenge series championship in North America and Eric de Doncker repeated as the GT4 European Cup champion in Europe."

If it's not German or Japanese most of these CHUD's don't care about it. I however am excited about a new gt500. There are a couple that roll around here in the summer, its always fun just to see one.

Why does everyone call it the Shelby GT500 instead of just Cobra?
I'm sorry if that's a noob question.

Because that's what it's called. The last "Cobra" was the 2004. Ford named the next SVT Mustang "Shelby GT500", and so that is how we refer to it.

does this mean no ecoboost as "the next chapter" in detroit? that's very disappointing. they almost had my sale...

The EcoBoost engine setup is going to be released in the MKS first. By 2011/12 75% (i think) of Ford's lineup will feature the EcoBoost engine. Im sure it will make it in eventualy

Isn't this car already heavy enough.
