Carlos Ghosn named president of European Automobile Manufacturers' Association
Carlos Ghosn for President! Well, President of The European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, or ACEA. The head man at the Nissan/Renault has been elected by the ACEA to act as its very own Knight in Shining Armor starting on January 1, 2009.Ghosn will replace Christian Streiff, CEO of PSA Peugeot Citroën, and will begin his duties at a rather difficult time for the industry. Not only are the automakers smack dab in the midst of a major fuel-saving model makeover, but the global economy is tanking at the same time. Because the ACEA sets the standards that the European automakers will be expected to adhere to, Ghosn will work hand-in-hand with the European Union on future laws, especially on such issues as carbon emissions and for national financial incentives to help the struggling automakers.

if i were a chrysler or gm shareholder...i'd think twice about luring this guy to my company, kinda like the way they do in sports. throw in a 30 mil contract for the first 2 years, then down to maybe 10 million + performance incentives in years following. i mean, seriously this guy is one of the most competent auto CEOs that we've seen in the last 25 years. He's already turned nissan and renault around, and managing both companies @ the same time. Should move on to the next team.
this is all in good humor...

Why is it that AutoBlog is incapable of understanding that Renault owns Nissan? The name of the group is the Renault-Nissan alliance. In that order.
Even according to the press release featured here Renault is the primary name and company mentioned. Renault purchased 40% of Nissan and Goshn became it's leader *in addition* to his role as CEO and President of Renault.
So your "The head man at the Nissan/Renault" should read "at Renault/Nissan". It's like saying GM is Canadian/American because they have factories in Canada!

AOL bought Time Warner. Is there any doubt over who was the dominant partner in that relationship?

Andrew, I think it has more to do with the niavete of perspective than intentional disrespect.
Sadly, Renault is absent these American shores. The AB Boyz think - probably - Ghosn, GT-R, Nissan - in that order. Renault never enters that equation over here...unless you live and breathe F1.
Could be worse. In an article last week, the venerated Wall Street Journal spelled poor Carlos' name as Ghosen - which is the name a a big dairy farm near where I - and Chris Bangle - grew up.

Well, he did earn the nickname "Le Cost Cutter" after digging Nissan out of the hole they were in. Let's hope he can save the ACEA a few bucks as well.
