Gran Turismo 5 could arrive Stateside in late 2009

We've been playing Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for about a year now on our PS3, and it looks like we'll be waiting another 12 months before we get our hands on the full version. Spanish newspaper El Financiero claims that senior executives at Polyphony point to a Christmas 2009 date for the full GT5. This comes after GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi told our friends over at Joystiq that the debut of GT5 might not happen until sometime in 2010. The full GT5 would contain far more race tracks and vehicles than the already competent Prologue, which we would welcome with open arms. Many are speculating that, like previous versions, GT5 will first be launched in Japan. That means it's highly likely that we'll have all the details on the prodigious racing game well before it hits our shores.
While we're hopeful that GT5 finds its way underneath our Christmas tree next year, the GT racing series has been anything but timely. One example could be the promised GT4 for PSP. It was announced four years ago in 2004 and Polyphony execs insist that it is still forthcoming – after GT5 is finally released.

Hey, you can get Forza Motorsport 2 today on the XBOX 360 today. Its really fun, I tuned a Ferrari Scuderia to do 247 mph! I also tuned a Porsche 911 Turbo (type 997) to do zero to 60 in 1.9 seconds. Yes, 1.9 sec!
But if you only have the original XBOX, on Forza Motorsport 1 you can turbocharge an Enzo Ferrari so it makes 1247 hp!
And if raw speed is not your thing, the BMW E92 M3 is very controllable when drifting, you pick a line, hit the gas and feather the throttle accordingly and it will drift even around two consecutive sharp 90 degree turns.

This is the very reason why the PS3 is nothing but paperweight. Good games kept getting delay because the damn console is near impossible for the developers to work with. I used to be a huge GT fan. I even bought a PS3 to play the prologue only to be disappointed. I went back to Forza 2 and still loving it. I am sure by the time we see GT5 there will be no market for it. People have either moved on or the economy is so damn bad no one can afford to buy video games.

I actually already have Forza2. I also have GT5:Prologue and just really prefer GT.

@cFoo
are you stupid? please tell me you're joking. you're trying tom compare GT5 to forza 2? there is nothing about the ps3 that is "tremendously difficult" to develop for anymore. Maybe for extremely small development companies with less than 20 FT people, but just about every 3rd party studio that i can think of has said they have worked w/ other companies for tips n' tricks. It's really a thing of the past.
But again, you're going to try and compare the HUNDREDS of cars and HUNDREDS of tracks which will be in GT5 to forza 2? i mean, for the love of gah'd, even if there is a forza 3 the GT5 would still be rated better. Its no surprise that many professional racers have said they have in the past used GT4 to practice for racers, and that in GT5 the attention to detail is so great that they can judge braking points by bumps in the road, and by trees and rocks that are actually there in real life.
So to sum it up in short: GT5 is taking forever for 1 reason...the Polyphony team are perfectionists.

You are completley clueless. GT4 big dissapoitment. Realism? HARDLY. Honda sound effects on every single car? Lame. Yeah they got graphics perfectly but when it comes to simulation they half assed it prolonged it exteneded more time released half ass version. They did same with new one and they kepe doing it again. They are spitting on their fans.
Forza is a lot more enjoyable to play than gran turismo. I don't care how perfected graphics are on GT. GT's simulation failed at part 4. Example. You have a somewhat powerful car, try to do donuts? the car will make a perfect circle every single time, wont even fishtail. Thats physics failure number one right there. Here are some other things GT doesn't have that Forza has. Lock up brakes, overheating of tires during constant excess use in an instant, sounds ( soooooooo important in a car game) It's literally lame when you drive a race car or an American v8 car and it sounds like honduh. Gran Turismo 4 physics are terrible and I'm sure the GT5 prologue has the same BS. When it comes to fun factor Forza owns GT, when it comes to graphics GT owns Forza. So put Forza everything and GT graphics in one game and you got a perfect setup.
Peace haters

J-F'n-C, would you all SHUT THE CRAP UP. GOD DAMN.
I mean seriously, stop the stupid "my peni...I mean video game system...is better than yours" crap. UGH. Justin wants GT5. A lot of people do. I do too. Other people want (and possibly own) Forza. Sometimes these groups overlap, sometimes they don't.
DONE.

At least this one HAS a release date: I bought a PSP so I could play GT Mobile on it. That was four years ago...four long years. So far, the only races I have done have been for "PINKS" while annoying DJs call you "FOO" cos ya don't haz the "STREET CRED" wis yo riced out Accord. ;-;

But if you recall, GT4 had several release dates....

Good. I have time to save up for the 42' 1080p LCD, the PS3, the game and the Logitech driving wheels setup :D
s13hybrid 9:54AM (12/03/2008)
I would not be surprised if they pushed it back more. I think people have come to expect delays with the gran turismo series.
But Mazda FTW is right, now I also have time to get everything ready for its release.

The Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel is supposed to be $99.99 at Best Buy the week of Dec. 7-13.

They might as well call it Gran Turismo 6

On the bright side, Polyphony plans to release several online updates to GT5P between now and GT5's release. They've already released two major updates, which brought the car count from 60 up to 74.
Of course, there was supposed to be another update for late 2008, which hasn't materialized... so it looks like they're staying true to form with these too.

on top of that, i'm just glad the updates are free...if they were .99 cent or even 1.99 updates kinda like burnout paradise i'd be very upset.
10VD 12:24PM (12/03/2008)
@SlimbaDogg
all of Burnouts updates have been free so far. They're going to have some paid DLC later, but they've done a great job supporting the game that I wouldn't mind paying some money for DLC.
You might be thinking of NFS:Undercover which has a slew of DLC that you can pay for (over $60 for all of it) but it's also unlockable in the game.
