BREAKING: Tesla Motors SVP Darryl Siry switches off!

Siry and the Tesla Roadster
The executive churn at Tesla Motors continues today as SVP of Marketing and Sales, Darryl Siry has resigned. In a posting on his personal blog, Siry cited "disagreements in strategy" as his reason for leaving. When AutoblogGreen contacted Siry, he declined to elaborate on the reasons, but a successor has already been recruited and Siry stayed on these last several weeks to facilitate the transition. In mid-October, Tesla Chairman Elon Musk stepped in to replace former CEO Ze'ev Drori in that position, a move that coincided with the lay-offs of 20 percent of the company's staff and delays to the Model S sedan.
Among his duties at Tesla, Siry has been the primary spokesman for the EV start-up. He has not announced any new plans but does intend to comment more on the alternative fuel vehicle industry on his blog.

The beginning of the end?

I would think Martin Eberhard leaving might also qualify as the beginning (an earlier beginning) of the end.
Clearly there are some problems at Tesla.
Red 2:10PM (12/02/2008)
Unfortunately, letting Eberhard and Siry among the many others go will likely do nothing for the company. The problem is still there.....Elon Musk.
It sounds like Tesla never really had a long-term plan that was fleshed out enough to include the potential problems (technology, funding, etc). As I mentioned elsewhere, technology companies and car companies are two different things. You could fire everybody at a technology-based company and work in your basement if you needed to. Out of respect to those companies, I'm not saying things are easy, but you certainly aren't dealing with the load an international car company must deal with.
It's apparent Musk is arrogant and stubborn and lacks any sort of vision beyond the end of the current day and like most everyone, I see no real long term viability in the company. If Tesla fails, it'll be his doing.

Broke company walking.
Dead company walking.
Maybe they can sue their way back into profitability.

Or possibly ask Obama to bail them out. Everyone else is. I am sure Obama would in order to get a free Tesla.
nastinupe 12:57PM (12/02/2008)
Yea, Obama is the one responsible for all of this mess. It's all his fault. And he is the one in charge of the bailouts and has been for the past... Oh wait. Obama isn't even president yet.
I guess that we need to wait until he becomes president before we blame him for the destruction of the free world. I kind of jumped the gun on that one.
Man, the hating has already started before the man even takes office. Talk about some bitter losers.
TJ 12:59PM (12/02/2008)
Nasti... There was no blame there. Just the simple statement that he will be the one dolling at least $350bil of approved bailout money.
calm down buddy, no blame there.
nastinupe 1:21PM (12/02/2008)
I just don't take comments to him very lightly. There's always a since of "hate" behind them. At least we had a reason to feel like Bush was a F up. He actually F'ed up. If Obama is an f up, then cool. But every website on the web has people dissing him and saying that he doesn't know anything. Just give the man a chance. He has made other decsions in his life and did pretty well, so I believe that that streak will continue.

Some people expect Obama to give them free gas vouchers. No need in expensive electric cars.
Dude 2:23PM (12/02/2008)
@Nasti
Bush never got a chance either. Back in 2000, he was being blamed for things (the economy) before he entered office too. It just goes with the job.
happy_penguin 2:37PM (12/02/2008)
They did it to Clinton, they did it to Bush..... oh wait...

This company has some serious personality disorders. They need to pick a direction and stick to it. Seems like they are on to something really great, but can't decide what they want to be when they grow up. Sad. Tesla, if your listening, I'll be the SVP of Mktg and Sales.

Something is very wrong at Tesla. There seems to be way too much drama going on behind the scenes.

I know I'd have my doubts about buying a car from them. Where are the repair parts and warranty going to come from? I foresee Tesla will be going out of business before any of the Big 3.
TORONTO 1:08PM (12/02/2008)
I'm gonna start rumors and say that they are selling out to Porsche.....

I think its going to be a miracle if they fulfill the orders they've already taken deposits on. Tesla's mistake was spending all their cash developing a low-volume sports car, when the sedan is what they should have been making from day 1. Now they don't have the resources to finish the sedan project, and there are a few companies close to releasing electric sedans.
They got beat at their own game.

Tesla is like a tragic comedy. The car business is easy after all.

Whoa, calm down. All he said was that Obama may need to bail them out i.e. just like the Big 3.

Maybe he's not far ahead enough in the waiting list for the Tesla :P.
I personally hope Tesla do well, and bring affordable, decent performance, practical and clean cars into more people's lives.
