First official Aston Martin Rapide image comes online

It's only one image, but it's supposedly the real deal. Or so says CAR Magazine in the UK, which published this rendering of the upcoming Aston Martin Rapide today. The publication claims the computer-generated rendering comes straight from Aston and previews the final form of this über four-door coupe. They apparently have another image in hand but are saving that for the January 2009 print issue of CAR. From what we can see, it appears that the Rapide will remain very true to the concept version. CAR notes the front end has changed a bit with the concept's quad air intakes being replaced by an upper and lower grille, and there's now a more creased character line running down the length of the vehicle. The rear has supposedly changed a little as well, but is not viewable from the angle we get in this rendering. The mag is also claiming the Rapide will be powered by a big 6.0L V12 producing 500bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque, which should be enough to keep the large sedan, err... coupe, moving briskly.

What take a Vantage and stretch it?
Porsche did the same thing. Its just that Porsche's bug eyed fastback style doesn't translate well into a saloon.

It seems like Porsche were just being lazy.

Absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous, and once again reminds me of what an amazing job Ian Callum did when he designed the DB7 - itself one of the most beautiful cars of all time, and giving Astons a timeless look that's just as attractive more than a decade later.

The DB7 came out in what 1994? It's amazing how well those lines still translate, but that's likely because everybody else is trying too hard. Manufacturers are confused; they want to be different but they continue to use everybody else's lines. I don't quite understand how that works, but thank God someone at Aston can comprehend a good thing when they see it (see "Honda NSX to Acura NSX-successor"). The only downside is, as I've said before, it makes it very difficult to improve upon the design. The DB9 is gorgeous, and as good as the DBS looks, it just looks like a DB9 with a bodykit. In any other situation, the One-77 would be beautiful. But IMHO, it looks like a Mansory-kitted DB9. As beautiful as the Rapide is, I'm curious to know how they'll translate what Aston has become into something fresh and new. In the meantime, I have absolutely no qualms with this design. :-)

I'm with you man, amazing! And if the stereo is anything like the unit in the DBS, it'll sound awesome when the engine's off too :D.

I guess if you're attempting a dry response in proper crisp British rapier wit, then yes... But I think my chav take is far better.

A coupe has two doors.
A sedan has four.
