VIDEO: AutoCar Ad of the Year - Volkswagen's Singing Dog

Click above to watch the video
AutoCar readers have voted on the year's best car commercial, and unsurprisingly, it's not from America. Neither is AutoCar, sure, but that still doesn't quite explain why we get GM's Our Country ads and the rest of you get ninja kittens and singing dogs. We're not even sure how singing dogs sell cars – which might be why we don't get them – but they're a lot more fun. The dog can try to explain himself in this year's winning video after the jump.

Foreign Guy in the office: That's funny because dogs don't sing and he sings, but is ashamed of it, but the car makes him feel better, so he sings louder. haha it's funny.

Didn't this get pulled from being aired on UK TV?

Yup, Ofcom banned it for animal cruelty. Still funny though.

It did get banned on UK TV, and how pathetic. The dog was not suffering in any way. Yet because some pathetic people complained the ad was banned/axed.
(I am actually surprised it hasn't been banned from youtube yet. Another bunch of arse-lickers!)
I am getting fed up with everything having to be banned because a minority of people complain.
There seems to be such a sense of political correctness and kissing the arses of those who always complain.
I would like someone to stand up to the people who always complain and say "No, there is nothing wrong with the advert, the dog wasn't suffering and it will continue to be shown."
Everyone is so fearful of offending someone else. It is actually good not to be too sheltered, i.e. if everyone is fat where is the incentive to lose weight.

I think it was briefly. There was some concern that VW had actually used an 'ill' dog that actually shook in the commerical, but they claim it was merely standing on a small pad that vibrated.
I actually voted for this ad in that competition (although the standard wasn't that high compared with previous years). It makes me chuckle when it see it, even if it's a tad creepy at the same time.

Nah... don't feel anything on the Jeep one
Joe K. 8:42PM (11/18/2008)
Could not disagree more, the Jeep one is awful. The wolf eating the bird, unnecessary. The whole ad being out of tune, lacking punch, and being generally unlikeable.

it's certainly is a lot better than the "pregnant" women ones in the U.S. with what's her name. the first couple i saw, i couldn't figure out what was going on. they're kind of degrading too.
i liked the dog and his having to "keep it in" when others were around. how many times do you do that yourself standing in line at the bank?

THIS is the best ad...It's an argentinian Renault Clio ad, from 1998.

It's in spanish you can understand... the devil ofers the guy salvation, money, women an power in that order.
This one is good too, also from the Clio.

Renault used to make really good ads in Argentina, including a series of bible stories in modern days, with Jesus driving a Clio (Not suitable for religious fanatics :) )

The all time best was the foreign woman squeezing into the compact car....so who has that saved as a favorite?

I think this SEAT commercial is great:

As well as the European Chevy Aveo, making fun of the Citroen C4 commercial:
