VIDEO: Autoblog goes in-depth with 2010 Ford Mustang

The 2010 Mustang is finally out in the open (check out our Officially, Official: 2010 Ford Mustang post), and so far we like what we see. Ford has given its iconic pony car a very thorough makeover inside and out, with sexier, more modern sheet metal and interior materials that are far superior to the current model. The Mustang's basic powertrains carry over with a modest power boost for the V8 model, and Blue Oval brass ensure us that the Mustang's ride and handling will be greatly improved, as well.
We were able to get the Mustang's head exterior and interior designers, as well as the pony car's head engineer to give us as many 2010 Mustang details as possible. The video above is five minutes in length and worth every second watching, and we covered the talking heads with plenty of footage of Ford's newest Mustang to keep things interesting. Enjoy.

The new touches are nice but too minor. The car looks outdated because it's the same basic thing that we've been seeing for five years now.
What happened to the Giugiaro Mustang? That car was instantly recognizable as a Mustang yet new and interesting.

Totally agree with you. The changes are so minor that even though I really like the latest Mustang (pre-2010), I can barely tell the difference.
It needed a little extra something. Ah well.

The Giugiaro Mustang was an abortion on wheels. Thank god the 2010 doesn't look like that. However, I can tell you and the other posters don't own the current Stang. Put them side by side and you notice a lot of differences. Even more so on the inside. Now we just need that 5.0L 400+HP V8 for 2011.

Since the V-6 is the biggest seller by far, I believe that also translates to a more conservative overall buyer. The concepts that we all love don't make it because they are too bold and to different. Which brings me to the part I find somewhat ironic which is everyone getting annoyed at so many Mustang variants for the bolder shopper! There's a market for it! Ever seen a Saleen sitting on a lot with a "10,000 Off" sticker on it? (I know someone's gonna say "actually")
I think it looks good, the updates were very intelligently done.
No it's not as bold as I'd like it, it doesn't have all the updates that I'd like to see such as a lower roof, a mid engine, an independent suspension, 500 hp, scissor doors (ha ha), a nostril hood and all kinds of cool customization but ya know what? That would probably be a Lambo or a Lotus and not a Mustang!
They stuck to what the Icon is. An affordable, powerful, well styled American sport coupe that not a single one of us would b*tch about if we were handed the keys to.
The rest are simply imitators! With that said, "the rest" are still cool in their own right!
Remember... It's not about being the most powerful, the most bold, the most cool, the most anything. It's about being what you are and that my friends is an icon!

Yeah, you're right... so minor. They only changed all of the sheetmetal, all of the interior, the suspension tuning, the wheels, and upgraded the engine.
I mean, the tires are still black and round, just like last year.
Totally lame.

The new 2010 Mustang look's great! As an owner of a '07 Shelby GT500, I can't wait to see what Shelby, Rousch, Steeda and Saleen do to their cars. I like all the refinements to the '05 concept and I believe Mustang will continue to reek havoc with GM and Chrysler. The new Mustang will be the only muscle car left after GM and Chrysler go belly up. GO Ford!

I persional think that the reason they made this "new" mustang is because it is cheaper to make. There are much less bend in the metal except for the hood. I just can wait to here some other kid come up to me and say the his car is all powerful and good looking because he has a gt and then see some 80 year old grandmother drive by in the same car. I have a srt6 crossfire and its nice when you dont see someone else driving the same car as you every single day.

It's a nice warming over, like they did with the '67 model. They really needed to do something that allowed them to plug in larger engines so they can keep up in the horsepower race, but being 1/4 ton lighter than the competition is still a good thing.

I like the changes a lot more than I thought I would. I think it's a lot more competitive.
Again, I just wish they'd do something with the side mirrors. The arguments that it costs money for them to fold is ridiculous. All of that new LED interior lighting probably cost more, and even the Ranger has folding mirrors.

I like it, it's definitely an improvement...but not a big one. Would you really want to get a new Mustang if you had to point out to someone that it's new? Anyone who's not a gearhead wouldn't know the difference. I'd say the interior finally looks like it got some attention though. But, if you knock on that dashboard I'm sure you would hear a nice loud plastic clank instead of a reassuring thud.

The 1971 Maverick had no segmentation on the front clip, nostrils on its hood, solid horizontal tail lamps, Chevelle like hips (i only say Chevelle like because it lasted and people know the hips), horizontal rectangle front blinkers, a big black stripe up the hood and a roof-line that blended into the trunk lid just like a Chevelle as well!
So was it the color that was the same? Maybe you thinking of a completely different car, post, site........ memory?
Note: The Maverick and Chevelle looked very similar and both look the same in the late 60's (68 and 69) so my references to Chevelle were only to contrast the Mustang away from the Maverick. Which they look nothing alike, yesterday or today!

I loved my Maverick and it retailed for only $1,995 with an auto trans and V-6 engine!! Threw snow tires and it went anywhere. Too bad the transmission slipped. The '71 Maverick and Chevelle were nothing a like. (Just start with the wheelbase). These are my generation of cruisin' cars. What you've listed for 10 'Tang are only minor detail changes. Check the overall outline, shape and proportions, especially in the side profile of the hood, the line of the roof into the rear window (and small window in the back quarter) and the trunk. Looks like a morphed Maverick. I waxed the green thing too many times not to have it memorized.

definitely better than the current one.
I would have prefered it to have had a few more chaned so it would look refreshed
interior is the best of the Camaro/mustang/challenger group, and it will be lighter
somehow the 370Z still pulls me from this car

From this Mustang lover I have to say, It's the ugliest damn thing I have ever seen. WTF were they thinking? Take a perfectly good looking car and ruin it by changing the retro headlights and tailights making it look as if it has been to Joan Rivers' plastic surgeon. And call it something new? Bah! And they wonder why the automakers are facing bankruptcy. In guess there are still Mustang fans that will like this new look but for me I personally have to say the new Camaro and the Challenger are far better looking than this mess.
