9ff working on hotter GT9R

The German uber-tuners at 9ff have come to the conclusion that 253 mph just isn't fast enough, so work is currently underway on a hotter version of its GT9 supercar.
The "standard" GT3-based 9ff GT9 puts out 973 hp and 711 lb-ft of torque, but with a few tweaks to the ECU and a slight increase in boost pressure, the 4.2-liter flat-six will be putting out 1,120 hp and 774 lb-ft of twist. The chopped roof, lengthened body and widened haunches will carry over to the GT9R, but a new front fascia, splitter, wheel well extractors, brake cooling ducts, roof-mounted air scoop and wing will be added to the package. There's no word on what 9ff plans to do with the GT9R, but don't be surprised if it hits the circuit next year.

Why?
Can anyone name a series this car is allowed to race in?

1120 hp and 774 lbs·ft from an engine with less than 8 cylinders? That's [expletive] CRAZY!

What does cylinder count have to do with horsepower?
Frictional losses, rotational and reciprocating masses, yes...but horsepower/torque, nope.
A 4.2L, turbocharged gasoline engine boosted to within an inch of its life is going to make ~1100hp, whether it has 6 cylinders or 12.

Nice car. A bit underpowered.

Damn, that actually looks pretty good. I bet 1100hp makes it look that much better too. Sort of like a nice bum or pair of hoo-has on a girl.

I read about this in Evo a while ago when they tested the "normal" GT9. This one is more focused on handling and all around performance whilst the original was pure top speed.
Amazing numbers, I gotta say.

Damn nice car!
All it needs is a Black paint job, and it's perfect.

Now THAT is a boxer-powered mid-engined supercar.
The Carrera GT was amazing, but the roof on this looks much more graceful than the drop-off targa roof.
that is a helluva lot of power, too.
Imagine if the Cayman looked like that, as a production car, and had the 911, GT3, and GT2 engines... in production, not having to be a custom job. I admire custom, but this is kinda what Porsche should be doing, itself, instead of RUF, and 9ff having to do it.

They're covered to decrease aerodynamic drag. Useful at 253MPH. ;)
nagmashot 9:08AM (11/14/2008)
@Metar
and they did not use them as they drove the GT9 to 254mph :)
