In a rare bit of good news for Detroit these days, Fisker Automotive is planning to set up shop in Pontiac, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. It makes sense for the emerging automaker to have its engineering location near the automotive capitol of the United States, considering that there is a huge number of skilled engineers and designers already in the area just looking for a good job. Plus, most of the auto suppliers are either based in or have satellite locations in suburban Detroit. Fisker's 34,000 square-foot location is expected to employ around 200 workers, 130 of which have already been hired.
In a surprising move, Henrik Fisker, the company's founder and CEO, has said that his automaker has yet to discuss any incentives from the Detroit-area lawmakers. We'd expect those talks to take place, as the Detroit suburban areas have made deals with other automakers already and are eager to have new businesses take up residence.
