9ff takes Porsche 911 GT2 to 670 hp and beyond

Click above for a high-res gallery of the 9ff Porsche 911 GT2
The Porsche 911 GT2 is hardly lacking for horsepower, but the 9ff crew can never leave "good enough" alone. With a pair of V670 turbos, a 9ff custom intake manifold, headers and exhaust system with a two-stage valve that takes the engine note from raucous to profane, the 9ff GT2 puts out 670 hp and 590 lb.-ft. of torque. Zero to 62 comes up in a supercar embarrassing 3.6 seconds and 124 mph is dispatched in a scant 9.8 seconds. Naturally, the ECU has been modified to make use of the additional boost and breathing mods, while simultaneously raising the rev limiter to 7,200 rpm. The additional power is shoveled to the transmission via a single-mass flywheel and racing clutch, while a coilover suspension does its best to keep the GT2 on terra firma at all times. And if having the ability to bully ZR1s, Enzos, and Carrera GTs isn't enough, a 910 hp version is on the way.

Whatever happened to the Gemballa Avalanche GTR 800 EVO-R? I mean 850hp out of a 997 is pretty impressive, but I haven't seen it driven or tested since gemballa released the details :(

I fail to see anything impressive about the performance. a car that light should be doing a considerably quicker 0-60 time with that much power. And how, precisely, does this "bully around a ZR-1?" or an enzo? or a carrera GT? All three of these cars are faster. and who's idea was it to give three four-year-olds red, black, and gold sharpies and let them go to town?

you know, I want to love this car, but that graphics package is as bad as it gets, and I just can't.

"I fail to see anything impressive about the performance."
Right........

"Right........"
Well comparatively, of course. Alone, its performance is no doubt impressive, but becomes less exciting as its power figures are revealed. And as i said, I'm not sure how a 3.6 sec 0-60 time is "super-car embarrassing." am i being nitpicky? maybe. sorry.
Stock, the car weighs ~100 lbs less than a ZR-1. That margin undoubtedly grows with the addition of 9ff's parts, and yet with more power and less weight it cannot match it's 0-60 time, and only matches (perhaps *slightly* bests) its 1/4 mile. I'm not a ZR1 fanboy, i'm just using it as an example.

I suppose it can't quite put all that power down, especially since its RWD and quite light, much like the 9ff GT9, which lost to the likes of Ariel Atom, LP640 and Z06 in the TG Germany Vs Britain challenge 1/4 mile drag race.
Seriously, I don't think those cars you mentioned can keep up once this gets going.
Trent 8:39PM (11/10/2008)
that may very well be true. i think this calls for.... a standing mile drag. =D
Mobius_1 10:04PM (11/10/2008)
I think this calls for two things: a two mile drag race and a lap around the Ring

I agree with Trent. A 3.6 second 0-60 time is awfully fast, but not for a 670hp Porsche. Also, I wouldn't consider this a "supercar-embarassing" car - I would just consider a 670hp 9ff GT2 a supercar, plain and simple. At least it's surely priced like one.
"I suppose it can't quite put all that power down, especially since its RWD and quite light..."
Porsche 911s are known for their freakish 0-60 times. The engine sits right on top of the rear axle, so all the weight of the car is exactly where you want it for a quick launch. Plus, extremely wide rear tires don't hurt.
As a comparison, the Ultima GTR720 kit car does 0-60 in 2.6 seconds with just 50 more horses (albeit with about 1,000 fewer lbs.) - but that's some evidence that an extremely powerful, lightweight RWD car can be quite fast to 60mph.
I would guess that 9ff either didn't upgrade the tires (no mention of that), or perhaps more likely, just opted for a less-aggressive launch technique. With an ideal setup and a hard launch, I'd figure this thing should be able to break 3.0 seconds easily.

It is naive to look at the 0-60 time since those turbos are probably programmed to only put out half of its boost from a dig...i.e turbo controller or timer.
It's the 124mph in under 10 seconds that is the amazing part...thats ZR-1 territory. So yes...this is capable of embarrasing super cars. It'll probably run a low 10 second 1/4 like the ZR-1.
TTOWNPHARAOH 8:37PM (11/10/2008)
Um....doesnt the stock GT2 go 0-60 in 3.6?
So...how is this an improvement exactly?

actually, you're wrong.
it's slower.
=D
from motor trend's test of the 2008 GT2:
" The GT2 scorches to 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds."
so... what's up?
Ryan 8:50PM (11/10/2008)
Improvement...because it happens to reach 124 mph in 9.8 seconds
Trent 9:25PM (11/10/2008)
but the ZR1 does 11.3 sec @ 133mph...
that sounds comparative.

"And if having the ability to bully ZR1s, Enzos, and Carrera GTs isn't enough, a 910 hp version is on the way."
that really made me lol. excellent.

Screw 0-60 times people, how fast can it do a lap at the Nürburg-Ring in Germany? I am always embarrassed for people who look at this car and comment on the 0-60 times verses the lap times. Wake up people!

Had they posted lap times, i would be happy to discuss that. We're just working with what we're given. =)
Michael 9:30PM (11/10/2008)
Well, in any case, slower than something else or not, I want one.
