SEMA 2008: Random acts of madness

Click above for high-res gallery of goofiness from SEMA
Even with the avalanche of posts we've brought you from SEMA this year, we ended up with a ton of extra random photos showing things that stopped us in our tracks and had us asking, WTF?! Below is a gallery that highlights some of that flotsam and jetsam for all of you to see. It's the kind of random madness that makes SEMA, well, SEMA: Tribute cars, skyscraper lift kits, cartoonish body kits, Technocolor paint jobs, and, of course, the outrageously inappropriate wheel and tire upgrades. Granted, most of the vehicles on display here in Vegas are designed to attract attention, but if they scare people away, we don't know if they're really serving any purpose. Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and most of these projects have hundreds, if not thousands, of man-hours in them, so we don't want to be too critical. One man's trash is another man's treasure, as they say. Just seems we've hit the jackpot here.Gallery: SEMA 2008: Random acts of madness

It is actually a VW I believe and is at every Hot August Nights here in Reno, usually parked at the Atlantis. I got a good look at it last year and watched them load a car onto the deck on back. It has some amazing craftsmanship on it.

That semi cab is a late 30's Ford COE, I believe. I've seen several custom versions of those at Good Guys shows.

So the charger in pic two would pretty much lose it's quarter panels if it hit a pothole, right?

It would lose every panel if it ran over a small pebble.

Those Hummers must be a bitch to turn, let alone park... no matter what kind of surface they're on.

The tracked Hummer would be badass out in the open snow country, and the Ghostbusters cars was awesome.

I love the tracked Hummer, with a spare tire on the back! What exactly is the point behind that?
