SEMA 2008: Branew Nissan GT-R wearing 23-inch wheels

One thing we've learned from SEMA over the past few years is that no car is safe from excessively large wheels. With the Nissan GT-R currently being perhaps the hottest sports car on the market, it was inevitable that we would see one rolling with huge rims. As it happened, we hadn't even entered the building before we spotted this GT-R among the DUB group of cars with blingy "superchrome" 23-inch rims. The rims are part of a kit from Branew, which also offers a body kit and center exhaust kit. It looks like there's still room in the wheel well, so we'll be on the look out for the first company to stuff 24-inchers onto the GT-R.

I don't understand why the GT-R has such a huge following... The original GT-R had a large following because you could modify the hell out of it to make it as crazy as you wanted. Now the new GT-R (has good performance) and you can't modify practically at all!
Not to mention, its waaay out of most peoples price range now...

I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with you. This...project...is an outstanding prototype for my "How to ruin a perfectly good car in six easy steps" program.
Step 1: Buy fast car
Step 2: Big f***ing wheels, bro!
Step 3: Slam it
Step 4: Add vinyl
Step 5: Install 350 lb audio system in the trunk
Step 6: Get destroyed at the track by a stock Honda Civic Si because you've got too much rolling mass, your suspension geometry is all f***ed up, that hello kitty decal on the roof peeled off and is acting like a parachute, and the excess weight in the trunk has completely thrown off the weight distribution.

First, I doubt its many peoples' absolute favorite car. But its an alarming number of people's least favorite.
I think the initial 'hype' was exaggerated by those that were opposed to its existence. It made those that wanted to see it in the US have to defend its actual accomplishments.
And most of the remaining 'hype' is a result of the rumor-mongering from those who would die to see it fail.
Other than that, I think those that have accepted it are content with its performance/dollar. It just slides into its rightful place and is an option for those in the market.
Second, there are mods a'plenty. You just have to know where to look.
Third, they can't price it anywhere near the G37 or the 370Z.

I have seen one around here. It sounds like the intarweb forum nissan fanbois will snatch the first batch in record pace and no one else cares.
Price too high nissan. Oh and it is ugly. R34 was better, regardless of n-ring times.

I'm with this guy, sure everyone may not like it, but at least let it be. what is an extra 3 inches when the GTR has such large rims to begin with. Sure it isn't needed.. but what modifications are?

I'm with these guys. Why would you want to spend $80,000 on a car and have it look like every other GT-R? It's cool to be unique.

Do you guys know anything at all about performance cars? The car is disgusting, plain and simple. Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should.
